Hi New Hampshire-ites (?)

I'm a certified teacher who's searching out of my home state for jobs, and I found a surprising amount of postings in New Hampshire--in Hanover, Lebanon, Keene, Hampton, Laconia and Littleton. I'm applying for these positions, but I never thought about working in New England before, and now I'm wondering....

1. What's the market for teachers in NH, generally?
2. What's cost of living like generally? I've heard you have high property taxes, but is the cost of living like in MA?
3. And about Littleton: How rural is it? It looked pretty small on the map, and I wondered if it was too isolated for a young single guy.

I have more questions, but I can research those myself. Any responses would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

mackinac

If your certified in math, science or special ed, there always seem to be lots of openings. Come April, there should be many more jobs listed on the edjobsnh website as that is when many teachers must sign their contracts for the following year so they'll be additional postings for those retiring and those transferring to other positions.

Not sure if you have found this website yet NH Department of Education - Data and Reports - Staffing and Salaries but it has lots of great data to help you decide where you might want to be. As you may know, the salaries vary greatly depending on the school district. For example:

Hampton - 1st yr teacher with a BA/BS. - $37,800 and a Masters $42,500
Laconia - BA/BS. - $32,700 Masters - $34,700
Keene - BA/BS - $31,500 Masters - $33,500
Conway - BA/BS - $27.600 Masters $29,500 (ouch!)

Cost of living is high but not as bad as MA. Property taxes vary on location.
Good luck!
