Exactly. I think it is about time that those who pay NO federal income taxes start paying. I find it amazing that so many people are ok with those who pay zero federal income tax and in addition receive EIC, while the rest of us continue to pay even more. The same people who want the so-called rich to pay even more have no problem with the many who pay zero federal income tax.

A great quote sums it up perfectly:

"The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money"

Does anyone who makes $10 an hour pay ANY federal income tax? $20,800 is the income level. A single person with no dependents and without a home is not paying much if anything at $10 per hour.

Looks like GregW is making over $200k/year. I am sure he is paying as much taxes as possible to help the country....

Folks that live off their property? Who lives off their property? A farmer? A retireee? Maybe a landlord, but that it a business in and of itself. Maybe Greggy wants to tax people's wealth. Confiscate their wealth of people who are deemed to have too much.

Seamusnh- here's some rough computations for you:

Gross income of $20,800
6.2% or ~$1,290 would go to social security
1.45% or ~$302 would go to medicare
Standard Deduction was $5,450 (assuming not a home owner and no dependants)
Taxable income would be $13,758 (15% tax bracket)
Federal tax would be ~$1,662

They would not be elligible for the EIC for 2008.

They would receive $400 of "Make Work Pay" Tax Credit
Reducing federal tax to $1,262

Net Income of $17,946
