To get more acerage yet be a relatively short drive to the beach you will probably have to look a bit further inland. I would suggest Barrington. You can be to the beach and UNH in a relatively short drive yet many properties are in a good bit of land with some scenic lakes.

Have you ever been to the beaches in NH? They are nothing like the beach most people are used to. Usually smaller and more rocky but very nice. Also, my limited experiences with NH has shown me that the beach/coastal towns are expensive.

since you've described most of NH, that leaves one area that needs clarification
do you mean ocean beach? NH only has about 14miles of coastline... or do you mean lake beach? NH has lots of lakes -some fabulous towns around them. Also, are you looking at waterfront property (much more expensive) or reasonable distance to - and in which case, how far? Would being in a town that fronts on the lake be ok, or do you need to be walking distance?
The Lakes area is gorgeous. And there's a lot more there than around the coastline.

So if I'm looking for an ocean beach town should look more into Maine or Rhode Island instead.CONFUSED

How close to the beach do you have to be? Southren NH and the Lakes region will put you about a 1/2 hr to 1 hour away from the coast, upper north maybe a 1/2 hour more. The Monadnock and Lebanon regions will be more time consuming
edit by upper noth I mean The Conway area. I have been to Littleton in the morning, the lakes by early noon and the coast before three pm
