Default Moving to Tamworth, NH--tell me about it!

We're thinking of chucking it all and moving to Tamworth, NH. Spent one very rainy week and fell in love. What's it like living there, though?
Please tell all. Thanks, Miaz

Can't say what it's like to live there, but it's a beautiful spot and the Remick Museum is wonderful. They do special events (maple sugar festival, winter festival, pumpkin festival, colonial Thanksgiving, Victorian Tea, etc) almost every month and kids love everything about it. As I'm sure you know, there is a theater group there and an artists' group that goes to Tamworth to paint. And you're only a hop, skip and a jump from the Yankee Smokehouse...what else do you need?

Mt. Chocorua is a highly photographed cone shaped mountain in Tamworth. I think the town has a wood fired power plant, but I am not certain on that. Taxes in Tamworth are the highest in Carroll County. Another thing is that the town is relatively isolated and quite a major drive to the I-93 corridor if that is of importance. However, it is a closer drive to Conway which has most of the ammenities that you are looking for that would not be found in Tamworth.

Former president Grover Cleveland's grandson lives there It's a great small town. You are near enough to North Conway for services, but far enough away for country living. It's a great retirement spot, but for jobs no so much.....

Default Tamworth, NH

Property values have just gone up and property taxes are high with minimal return on services. Some residents are resistant to new business as a result there are not many jobs or assitance with the taxes. The area (valley) in whole is based on the Tourist Industry - jobs flux based on the flow of tourists and weather. People are losing their homes daily. Grocery stores are can range from 15 to 30 miles away. The working class and the seniors that live here are struggling.

Suggest you have a good paying job before you move here, finding one is next to impossible.

Tamworth is the essence of a "bring you own income" place. Isolated and beautiful.
