That said- there is another argument to be raised here. If someone has built an addition to their home and has chosen not to disclose it they are essentially ripping off everyone else in town. By using aerial photography the town can determine if such additions exist in a non-obtrusive way. A GOOD way to address this would be to simply inform residents of when the flights are scheduled to occur; no different than saying "the assessor will be at your home to check it out"- just less invasive.

I think the reaction by NH residents would vary based on the circumstances. When our town was re-assessed we all received letters saying when they would be out and about...if they announced the same but said "by plane"...I imagine it would go over just fine.
True, but I would hope that the pictures were destroyed once their use had been achieved.

nope, they get passed around and used for the darndest things! A friend was showing around an app she found for her iPhone - part of the gps function: so when you're lost and cant' find the right house, you can call it up on the actual street view to see what it looks like and how close you are - even turning around 360. Yeah, you could see cars parked along the side or in the driveway. Kinda neat when you're completely lost and can't see any house numbers. Mind you, not everywhere is mapped into that detail, but the DC area is pretty well covered.

so you never know where those airplane shots get used.

I studied GPS uses 40 years ago and the level of detail was astounding. I can only expect it has improved. I wonder if anyone is going to suggest painting you license number on the roof of your cars in 6" size. It would be very useful for tracking stolen cars.

I'm not in that area, but I've seen F-15's and A-10's (wart hogs) buzzing Loon Mt. ski area for practice.

When I lived in Derry, I'd also see them quite often.

I would imagine that for planes based locally...the mountains in NH may provide some mountain terrain flying experience that the folks with need in Afghanistan.

If your really lucky you'll see an F-22, pretty awesome aircraft (I still like the F-15 and A-10 better though).

I saw two helicopters getting refueled mid air once in Milford. When I lived near Pease, I saw all kinds of things.
