It has been weakened but it is hardly dead. How long has Menino been mayor of Boston? Can anyone really challenge that political machine? He has the job until he retires.... The state house is even worse. I like the Rodgers guy that has a house on Cape Cod for which he is half owner yet he never made a payment on the house and the other "half" is owned by a lobbyist. That guy is still in the house. I went to high school with the current Suffolk County district attorney. He's a good guy. The stories he tells are beyond belief...

The citizens of MA have the power to change the constitution of the commonwealth. They voted to roll their income tax back to 5% and the state house blocked it. They voted to have a referendum on gat marriage but the state house blocked it. Recently a state rep proposed a bill that would give illegal aliens the right to vote in town elections. The state house wants to give illegal aliens instate college tuition. This is all done with the goal of getting votes from certain blocks of voters. None of these actions would work without the old boy network in the state house where votes are traded for favors on a daily basis...
