Rental Market in Dover/Portsmouth ??
I am moving to Dover in a few weeks from out of state. I have emailed several apartments that I saw advertised on Craigslist and so far.. no responses.
Is the rental market in that area tight?
I was simply asking if the apartments were available and if rental applications couild be emailed to me. I was quite surprised at the lack of responses, I must have emailed at least 7 advertised rentals.

I think you may have just been unlucky. Perhaps calling might work out better. I have seen a lot of the rentals on the market for a while, so I'm assuming that they are experiencing harder times, but I am not certain.

try searching fosters.com - it's the local newspaper for Dover
portsmouth herald is for Portsmouth. You might have some luck there. I have loads of family in the Dover area and there are lots of apartments in the area - so you should have had some response.

Thanks for the info. I will be out there next week and will make the calls. Any areas to avoid (I was told there may be areas that are flood prone) in Dover, Portsmouth or Durham?

Parts of Salmon Falls Rd in Somersworth/Rochester (about a 1 mile stretch of it) is prone to flooding - but that is usually houses not apartments in that area. When looking for rentals, don't disclude Somersworth or Rochester - just look at the apartment/house and ask us or around to see if it's a "bad part of town". Not that they are BAD just not a desirable place to live due to fights and the normal "petty crime" that tends to happen in any town/city in USA.
Good luck in your search

if you need any tips, my FH and i just got a rental in Dover. we were looking in rochester and dover...
to be honest at this point the market is probably moving a little quickly b/c of college students looking for housing for the next year...
i'm not sure what size apt ur looking for but i have been to a couple of buildings and maybe could give u feedback
we ended up renting at windshire gardens w/o actually seeing the apartment (eeek!) b/c everything we saw had issues... too small... too many dogs... too many kids... too expensive... too noisy etc etc
the place met our needs (at least the ad did LOL) and the pictures looked good so we just said what the heck...

NXC How funny!!
NXC,
I live at Windshire Gardens too!! How funny!
I rented without seeing it either due to waiting lists and the like! I can't wait to buy! Though it's not bad, there's nothing like your own!
