Utility Bills North Of Concord Please?
Hello everyone!
I was wondering what would a family of 2 in a house of 1800 square feet or so consume in utility bills? I have heard that they are a bit high in NH, so I wanted to get an idea from the people that live there.
Thank you so much for the help!

I think it depends on the utility company that will be providing your service and the type of energy required to run your appliances (gas, propane, elec). We lived in a great big ole' 8 room farmhouse with a 200 AMP feed down in the Concord area; service provided by Unitil; monthly bill approx. $45 - $60 month. We now live in a little cabin in the woods at the top of the state (200 AMP); service provided by PSNH; monthly bill $90 - $110. It seems to me its the cost of the "Supplier Services" that get ya'.....if I'm reading my bill correctly, I'm paying more $$$$ to get the service up here than I am for the amount of KWH I'm using???? Just my experience...hope it helps....

You can alway heat by wood burning stove with a heat exchanger in your chimney pipe. They work great and keep your heat bill way down.

Our electric bill, which also includes water is around $75.00 each month, sometimes a couple $$ more, sometimes a little less (but have never been above $80 so far)In this house we have an electric hot water heater, dishwasher, washer, dryer, the computers, hubby's recording stuff and electric guitars <g>. We use the fluorescent light bulbs wherever possible, which seems to help. In the big old farmhouse we rented, the bill was about the same (with no electric hot water heater or dishwasher)...we were pleasantly suprised by our bill here - figured it would be more, especially with the electric hot water heater......I work from home, so am here most of the day; hubby works 4 10-hour days a week and is home 3.
When we lived in NYS our bill was around 100 per month without the electric hot water heater or dishwasher, and in the summer even higher because we needed the a/c from about mid-May until mid-October many times (last year we used a/c 3 days/nights)...and in NYS we paid more for the water as well.

To Katele! To Torrey! To Windchimes03561!
HELLO EVERYONE!
Thank you all for the input!
It seems that monthly utilities vary quite a bit from one area to another, and it depends on different factors, like you all have stated!
At least this info gives me a rough idea of how much to budget for and or what to expect...
When I have a house that I like, I will describe it here again, to see if you would know what that would run for, because every house I look at has different arrangements...
Take care,
Thank you for everything!

The real question that needs to be answered is what is my utility charging per kwh to include surcharges. I've seen this question asked on other state forums and just by asking what someone pays per month can give you an idea, but every family can have unique high or low power demands.

To Flu189 ! Thank You!
HELLO FLU189!
Thank you for your post! GOOD POINT! I appreciate it!
Our computer would be on probably 6 hours a day, we would probably NOT use the AC in the summer.
We would probably have 1 refrigerator, and a separate freezer.
We would probably dry our clothes outside (no dryer). We would probably have a gas stove. We would probably use the light bulbs that save money ( I do not remember the name...) We do not use the microwave, or dishwasher.
And we do not keep all of the lights on, we only have the light on , in the room where we are in. One or two rooms at a time.
The TV is only on 1 hour a day. And we use the oven about 6 hours a week.
And its a household of two adults.
I am not sure if this is what you are asking, but I hope that this helps out, to be able to assist me.
I just read your post again, and it seems that what I just wrote is not really what you meant, right?...
Thank you so much ! I appreciate it!

It's pretty easy to conserve electricity, but you have to remember that many that boast of very low electric bills do not use appliances that most families do. It's great not to use the dishwasher or dryer, but most folks do. Power for lighting only averages about 10% of demand, so while keeping lights off or switching to low wattage bulbs will have a very small effect on gross residential power demand. Then there are some other factors such as well pumps, blower motors for forced air systems, water heaters, etc that can use quite a bit of power depending on family size and use. Again, know the kwh rate( and surcharges like "interim rate increases") , not what the neighbor pays to guage what your costs might be or not be.
