I still believe we should be looking for better alternative fuels if nothing more than we will run out of oil and I am tired of watching and paying for the up and down gas prices, Electric cars that actually can go somewhere I am for. Hydrogen cars whatever I am for it but the way the government and private companies are moving--like snails this is about 30 years away when they could have done something about it in the 70's. Global warming is being rammed down our throats and it is a you better listen to this or else. I listened the other day about a BBC reporter who went to Alaska to film the Inuits hunting for seals. They went out and couldn't do any hunting because there was too much ice and no holes for the seals to get through. The world will warm cyclically and it will cool cyclically and according to many meteoroligists these cycles are generally 30 -35 years in length.

You can choose to believe or not believe in global warming, but having the government push for better conservation and better fuel economy is a no brainer. Why waste all of this energy that we have? The U.S. should be the leader in green technology. In the past, the auto lobby was unrelentless in its fight against any change to the fuel economy standards and now they are paying the price with the Japanese leading the way in hybrid and green technology. Also, is less dependence on oil a bad thing? Push for more wind, solar energy. These technologies need government help in order to flourish. Europe is now leading the way in those technologies, and I'm afraid in its desire to protect certain industries, the federal government is handing the future to the Europeans and the Japanese.

I do believe that the Earth has been on an over-all warming trend for approx 7K years or so since the end of the last ice age. Yes there have been some mini ice ages since then but the historical trend has been a warming trend. I also do understand that there will be more ice ages many years down the road. But remember, humans had absolutely nothing to do with the end of the last great ice age.

Actually our country this year has seen the heaviest snow fall since 1966. So the question being are we or humans responsible for the 7,000 year warming trend? Definitely not. There is absolutely no scientific proof that human society and the discharge of CO2 from Fossil Fuels have any significant Affect upon Global Warming.

However, if you notice now, our economy as well as Europe and other western nations are near recession and one of the main contributors to our economic woes and for Western Nations is this AL Gore Carbon Foot Print Scam. This is costing billions and is also one of the main reasons that our gas prices have climbed so much. We are all so obsessed about this carbon footprint snake oil it is stifling our growth and making us more and more dependent upon Middle East and Venezuelan oil. If we would just work with our own natural resources then we could once again have a booming and more cost effective economy. People need to ask why OPEC donates millions of $$$ to environmental organizations like the Sierra Club and Friends of Rachel Carson? OPEC is smart and uses these environmental groups to tie our energy exploration industry up in court so to continue our dependence upon their middle east oil! If we do not wake up soon, it will truly be the end of our good life here in the USA. We have enough oil and coal to totally support all of our energy needs and even have some left over for an hearty export business. That also goes the same for many industries in the USA however, we are constantly undermined by mindless free trade agreements with countries which present unequal standard of living which thus dilutes our labor force and lowers the standards of all we worked so hard for.

I have noticed a substantial warming of the winter months in Southern New Hampshire. The extreme lows of -20 are now very rare and spring is arriving about one to two weeks earlier. December also seems to stay warmer for longer. My tomato crop is nearly done by first frost. This was not true 25 years ago.

I have experienced climate change in New Hampshire.

pauloman is on a distinguished road
There are now reports coming out suggesting that the current warming cycle is over or about to end. I recall the articles in the 70s on global cooling and the coming ice age. I even published a tongue in cheek humor article on it back then.

I suppose those folks that blame mankind (usually Americans) on the current warming trend (which they also assume will continue at the same rate or faster for decades or even hundreds of years), should indeed take action. They should have their children and grandchildren spayed/neutered immediately! After all, their future generations, could number hundreds of carbon footprinting, resource consuming, Americans within a few generations. Shameful! Better one person today burns regular lightbulbs and drives a Humvee than to unleash an every expanding number of future offspring to live off the bounty of a limited and over heating Earth! (wink, wink!).

-- just my - light hearted spin on this subject.

Mere billions on Al Gore's Carbon Footprint Scam, but $1 to 3 Trillion in Iraq? Another $1 Trillion in tax cuts since 2001. This is the first time in the HISTORY OF CIVILIZATION that a government has cut taxes in wartime!!! Then there's the housing market that everyone seems to agree is the clear and present danger for a recession. Oh, and how about our National Debt? By Jan 2, 2009 it will have DOUBLED to more than $10 TRILLION in just 8 years. The government is spending money like it is going out of fashion, but a documentary wins an Oscar and it's going to cause the downfall of the "good life"?

Exxon posted $40 Billion in profits last year - more money than any US company has ever made in a year. That's $133 for every man, woman, and child in the US (the previous record was held by Exxon for 2006. And the one before that was Exxon in 2005). In a collapsing economy. But, no - it's OPEC donating to the Sierra Club that is driving up the price of fuel? I suppose Halliburton donating to the NRA is causing the Ice Caps to melt then?

Great post Comet. I do enjoy a good conspiracy theory!

rmcewan believe or not I just gave you some good positive points for this! Your aleatoric response was funny. You had every political cliche' that one would hear on CNN or the Daly Show!!

Anyway, what does Exxon and the Sierra club have in common? They hate each other. And yes, OPEC is a huge benefactor of the Sierra Club and the Friends of Rachel Carson! How many new oil fields since the Elk Hill Oil Field was sold to Mr Gore's Company, AKA our modern Tea Pot Dome Scandal, have our country developed. Our country has enough Coal and Oil Natural Resources to serve all of our energy needs for the next 1000 years. My point being this; our young soldiers are dying in the middle east mainly because of an absurd environmental policy which is controlled and manipulated by China and the Arab Countries. And this Carbon Foot Print is all part of it. So while Mr Gore Goes very Green all the way to the bank with all his green cash! Us average Americans pay more and more at the pump and every where else because of Gore's carbon foot print scam and the Power and Control OPEC has upon us.
