Default Canine Chemotherapy

Has anyone experienced having chemotherapy for your dog? If so, I could use a friend right now. Our little boy was diagnosed with lymphosarcoma and just began chemo for it. Thanks

Judy

I'm so sorry! While I haven't personally gone through that with any of my cats (I don't have the lifestyle to be a good dog owner), I have spoken with my vet and techs about chemo for dogs when I saw a dog that was going through it there (belonged to one of the techs).

He assured me that chemo for dogs is very different than chemo for humans. For humans, we often react 'badly' in that we have all the trouble with nausea and hair falling out, and especially just feeling sick and tired. He said dogs don't react the same way - and it's not just because dogs can't say so: a good vet can read what a dog isn't telling you. They don't get the nausea, or the hair falling out, they might be somewhat more tired than usual, but in general with chemo, dogs do really well.

I hope this helps! maybe ValerieC can add in some - she was a vet tech at one time as I recall.

Judy, your puppy is going to be ok. As Wanna said for Canines it is a more pleasant experience than for humans. You also may want to discuss dietary options with your vet that may help. My Aunt/Uncle helped their dog by adopting a VERY strict diet for her.

I wish I could say "I don't understand what you're going through"; but unfortunately I do.
