On my newest Fairpoint bill, I supposedly called NC 3 times, but when you look at the numbers, they're all NH #'s that I really did call.....right #'s, wrong town & state. Sheesh! How can you mess up the software so badly in such a short time? I called them to whine & complain, but after 2 mins on hold decided I had better things to do and didn't really want to ruin the rest of my day......the constant rain makes it bad enough lately

I don't have a horror story per-say but when i cancelled them back in May I was told all was good n paid for... i would owe for part of may n would recieve a bill in the mail... did, paid it.. done... til i got a bill a week ago for june's service... call cust service... n after being bounced around n getting some rude woman who didn't seem to understand the concept of cancelled service i got a rep who told me: Oh yeah! new software! it's gonna take awhile, just dont pay the bill...
ah that's comforting... just don't pay it... it'll be fine... nooo woorries... let those bills pile up until the software figures out i cancelled my service...
why do i have the feeling the next time i call i'll be told that not only do i owe those bills but would be charged late fees and interest LOL

I didn't really have a chance to read all of this on the Fun with (Un) Fairpoint, but I can just imagine. I'm retired from one of downtown Boston's Verizon offices and I hear ya, believe me, loud and clear. We're even getting zapped with unfair treatment. They want the retirees to make copies of all our bills, send it off to them and send it NOT to Fairpoint but to their 3rd party billing agent. Fine, so you do that to get your discounts that you were promised as a retiree when you worked all thru the years right? It took months and I mean months for them to finally send you your checks they owe. I had it right up to my neck too folks...meanwhile all the people I worked with down in Massachusetts are with Verizon, so they're not having any problems whatsoever. So I finally got rid of them for good, it's been awesome for months WITHOUT them!
I cancelled them completely in January and now I'm with COMCAST and they are wonderful. I'm not kidding you either. We got the triple play and it's fantastic. No issues with them at all, one bill for the internet, the phone and the TV. Fine with us. So far so good, I'm sticking with them and here I am a Verizon retiree, they're awesome in my book, NO more dealing with (Un) Fairpoint.
I don't even care about this foolish FIOS coming down the pike, the heck with it. Comcast is here for a long long while in my house as long as they don't merge with any one else or sell off parts of it like the rest of them, then they're here for a while!
I strongly feel that Verizon sold off the upper New England states to Fairpoint to break the union. NO doubt in my mind either. I feel bad for the workers dealing with this issue these days. They can have it....my years in there were awesome and let me tell you, Verizon/BellAtlantic/NYNEX/New England Telephone were just awesome to me, it was like a family back then, it really was wonderful and they would NEVER EVER pull what they're pulling now on their customers, NO way, NO HOW, you know it and I know it, but these days? The workers now have a lot of issues that they're dealing with for their raises, bonuses and all that malarkey, instead of making it like a family in their offices, they're instead fighting tooth and nail with them in there, so they might as well hang it up for good in my estimation, it's a waste of time even trying to explain it to you guys! It's a battle for them, trust me!
It's truly a damn shame with the way the telecommunications industry has gone; it's just right out the window and guess what, a lot of higher ups are to blame, what else is new!

NXC, be very detailed in recording details of EVERY conversation you have with these jokers, including names, dates, who you spoke with, and details of the conversation.
You might not have a horror story yet, but you might, at some point. These idiots don't seem to even have the ability to cancel services property. We changed over to Comcast, and canceled our (un)Fairpoint phone and internet service. Well, they canceled the phone and left the internet account active, which resulted in 2 account numbers. When we sent the final payoff amount to them, they mis-applied the funds, and now, 8 months later(!!!) I have a $10 credit AND a $10 bill that has been sent to COLLECTIONS!!! I have spent MONTHS trying to get this situation fixed, and to no avail. At this point, I'm about to call the Attorney General. This little blip has appeared on my credit report, and I am NOT happy about that. It's almost funny that I have NEVER received a bill for the $10 supposedly owed, and though I've made repeated requests to their Collection Department, I have yet to receive it... What a joke...

the problem is, that none of the phone companies are any good! It doesn't matter which one you're with -we've been with so many down here- they all screw up when trying to cancel, they all have lousy customer service that do stupid things, and they all cost way to much.
I suspect we're going to have to have Fairpoint with the new house since they run the phone in Greenville, and they'll let us have a very basic service for cheap. We don't want full satellite or cable (and I tossed Comcast out on their proverbials years ago. I wouldn't trust them to get my name right on the bill!) since we're only going to baround maybe 3 or 4 times a year. I can't think of any way around it, especially since we don't hold with cell phones (which don't work well in our area anyway).
None of them are any good, face it.

That may have been because of Atlanta getting a strong T-storm.
And their feed may have been on satellite.
The Weather Channel is in Atlanta, Georgia. LOL.
