This is probably the most exhausting argument used by high tax Libs "what about fixing the roads?"
Here's an idea... take the money from someplace else. Cut programs, Cut welfare benefits, Cut government workers, Shut down government agencies, Turn off the lights. There are plenty of things the government can do to come up with the money to fix the roads.
The reason they won't is the same reason they always talk about cutting police or fire. The government goes right for the things that directly impact citizens so that they can RAISE taxes even more.
When you slam a pothole of course you want the roads fixed and may even be willing to pay for it. Don't be fooled. There is plenty of money for roads - the government just wastes it on other things.

Yup......it's the old bait & switch. Government leaves certain high use roads in disrepair and says look, we need more money to fix this ! Seen it a million times in a million different states and cites. Same old tricks.

The pols will never say 50%. They'll say 50 cents and then point out that it costs less than a pack of gum... Of course if you commute through those tolls every workday, it will cost you another $200+ per year, but the pols do not want you to think about it that way...

Considering the average voter has a double digit IQ it's sometimes easy to get these hikes passed.

If you think everybody is lying to you, you will never recognize the truth when it is spoken. Thus there is no use in arguing with you.

Don't get me started...regardless of political viewpoint there are some disturbingly ignorant individuals out there on both sides of the poltical discourse.

How about using the gas taxes for the purpose for which they were intended? Maybe if you stopped spending 2/3 of the gas tax for things OTHER than roads, you wouldn't be having these little problems.
Sorry, you got a toll hike from me a year ago. No more.
Here's something that ought to make all of you folks feel real comfy. California has a population of nearly 40 million. New Hampshire's population is currently about 1.3 million, making California 30 times larger.
California's 2009-10 budget is $112 Billion. NH has just proposed a two-year budget of $11.5 Billion, or $5.75 Billion per year. IOW, kids, by doing some simple math, we find that New Hampshire has a per-capita expenditure of 50 percent GREATER than a state on the verge of bankruptcy.
It's only a matter of time, boys and girls. Don't think it can't or won't happen here.

$200 per year? I WISH! Last time they jacked up tolls (last year) I ended up paying an EXTRA $40/month...up to $95/month. That's why I was so geeked on the possibility of the bill "capping" tolls had a chance to pass...or not.
