DH is a gov employee - we don't see any stimulus money coming our way. He hasn't even had a promotion in.. 10 years? which means he probably won't get one within the next 3 years <sigh>. And just because one is a Fed doesn't mean one voted for/likes/approves Obama (or any of the presidents that have gotten elected). It just means you have a job to do.
I like this. A mind, and a voice. Keep true point for you.

But that's the point exactly ! Grow the government, make it big, complex, obscure and obtuse, set up multiple agencies with overlapping regulations and whaddaya got ?

Massachusetts, California, New Jersey... I could go on but It's make me depressed.

The Gooberment isn't going to do a thing to help you or me.
Its sole purpose has become feeding on the citizenry and beelding them (us) dry.

Let's repeal NAFTA and impose trade restrictions and levy import tariffs.
That'd be a start.

It's a fake fix...it would encourage an inefficient workforce here. What we need is to be truly competitive. We really need to do it better, faster, cheaper...

The USA can't do it better, faster & cheaper when we are up against slave-labor, and third world nations that pay low wages unless WE become more like the third world. The last 30 years have proved that.

Exactly-not to mention our environmental standards for factories here in the USA get tougher and tougher-while places like China have pretty much no environmental standards. It will only get worse under so-called Cap and Trade-third world countries will get a pass for environmental standards and we will not.

Mrtwig - I have called for countervailing tariffs to eliminate the advantage created by slave labor and pollution for years. When there wages match ours and the clean up their act the tariffs go away. IIRC all the European and Asian countries have such as system. Just try exporting American made products into those countries. The current system subsidizes the moneychangers at a cost to everyone else. It has to stop or we will become a second world country.

GregW, I apoligise for not having read every single one of your posts. (I have a life.)
Honestly, most of what you have to say is very much misinformed.

Let's just say I agree to disagree with you and leave it at that.

These "European and Asian countries" are protecting their manufacturing base, something we are not doing.

The real issue here is Big Government's stranglehold on our economy. BOTH major parties continue to insure their survival by providing their subjects with bread and circuses - and nothing more.

We import many products we used to manufacture. I'll admit I'm no master of economics but no country can sustain itself unless it is selling at least at much as it is buying.

Unless and until this country regains prominence as a producer of goods our standard of living will continue to decline.

Frankly speaking, IMHO we already are a second world country. Take off the rose colored glasses and have a good look at what's happening in some of the more depressed areas of our country.

The decline is in full swing and has been for some time.

Default This would be sad if it wasn't true

When public opposition becomes crushing what do the Democrats do ?

Why they buy support !

...and they're using our money to do it to, I'll bet.
