I don't really understand why a seperate office is needed; if the state already has a budget & finance office- they should be set to handle the stimulus as if it were any other source? I could completely understand bringing on an extra person or two to do so; but not the full overhead of a new office.

Also, just an FYI, $133/k month is about the same as the customary average cost for ~6-8 professional workers during the same time period (and thats including allocated direct & indirect overhead; with any customary profit removed)- as a point of reference (yes, I know it seems high, but it is what it is).

I have given up trying to convince these right wing True Believers by using any rational discussion. I can only conclude they are impervious to argument and completely wrong concerning health care, government and economics. The land they believe in died years ago under the weight of pure crony capitalist monopolies and neo-conservative loonies.

Be careful of the assumption that all .gov employees are worthless or receiving bloated salaries/benefits; some folks receiving even big salaries are a STEAL for the good work that they do.

Oh I know. Only a majority of them do. If it doesn't concern you or your wife and you're not a taxpayer leech don't sweat it.

Shhhh.... Greg thinks big government is good for the country.

Well I am not sure what a "right wing true believer" is but it is sad that you have to play party politics. It is sad that you have no problem with a 2 million dollar budget for 15 months for something that does not need it. It is wrong with the democrats in charge and it would be wrong if the republicans were in charge and they did it. You scream about neocons etc. but yet you are one of the most partisian people I have seen on these boards. It is a shame that you and so many others on both sides of the aisle have to toe the party line. If that nonsense stopped, our country would be a much better place.

I guess it really does not concern me about the "customary average cost". This is nothing more than government waste pure and simple. I will go on record now as saying that they will request and receive a lot more than this initial 2 million dollars.

I thought way back when they were proposing this nonsense that they were going to have volunteers run this-I have to see if I can find the news article. If I recall correctly people opposed back then to this "stimulus plan" were concerned about this type of thing. But I suppose they were all "right wing true believers" as Greg likes to call those of us against government wanting to take more and more of OUR $$ and wasting it.

Understood, I was making the point though that the cost-per-head for the office was typical; NOT that the number of heads was acceptable. I am an avid proponent of government efficiency and while I may/may not see the need for an additional administrator or two to execute the funds (I have no idea what their current staffing/workload is...for all I know they could be ridiculously overmanned or ridiculously undermanned) I do know there are inherent ineficiencies is creating new organizations for every project that comes along- so this is a problem.

Again the private sector is cutting jobs by the millions and the federal and state governments are creating them. Who's paying for them?

That was part of the plan behind this "stimulus". Small business was the one hurting the most before this "stimulus" bill and they received the least. They are really the ones who create the jobs and drive the economy. Many small businesses received tax increases in this bill. Adding more and more government jobs and most likely union jobs adds more voters for those who crafted the "stimulus" bill.
