Any local meat farms in Southern NH?
Dh's aunt just gave us some lamb shoulder and ground lamb from lambs she raises every year. Holy cow it was good! That got me wondering whether there are local farms that raise and sell livestock for meat like CSA farms sell produce. I *think* I see a vendor at our farmers market each week. At least I did last year. But I was wondering if there is anything besides that.

Lull Farm in Hollis is selling fresh chicken this year, but I think you have to order ahead and pick it up on a certain date. I've also heard there is a good fish lady at the Amherst Farmer's Market.

The big farm east of Derry on Rt 102 sells various local meats during the summer season.

Problem is, there's no place like when I lived out west where you can get a side or a quarter of beef or pork. I see a FEW (VERY FEW) places do "packages" of burgers, dogs, steak tips, but I'm finding they're a bit overpriced, to say the least.

There are a few places still around. One you can try is LeMay's slaughter house, as us old timers call it, in Goffstown, NH. It's been some time since I've been involved in this type of Agriculture but, I know LeMay is still in business. They also rent pig roasters for parties and for those so inclined to cook your own.

OCAASparky, you can by me -- we picked up a chest freezer at a yard sale ($75 - woot!) for exactly this purpose.

Does LeMay's have an official name I can look up in the yellow pages? Goffstown is next door, so that would be really convenient.
I agree with Sparky, the prices are high! I expected them to be higher than the supermarket, but not that high.

Getting a vacuum sealer is worth its weight in gold if you are going to be freezing meat. A quality system will prevent freezer burn and keep it tasting great much longer!
Likewise, does anyone else find the term "Meat farm" funny? I know its used because the farm raises animals to sell different kinds of meat; but I can't keep from imagining T-bones out growing from a bush...
