Yes, I second the Portland Maine idea. It's one of my favorite small cities. The "Old Port" area in Portland has many bars.

You know, Portland has come up a few times in conversation. Is the bar scene there really that large where it would be possible to find work without too much hassle? The apartment scene looked pretty well off to, with moderate rent prices, but Portsmouth is still taking hold as my number one option here.

I love NH, but for what you are looking to do Portland Maine is perfect IMO.
