Default Rudeness?!

As a telemarketer, I am basically hated. However, I have never been treated by rude people as I have by New Hampshire residents. Is it the water? I mean I stay very nice on the phone yet people go out of their way to insult, berate or just be stupid to me.

No other state acts like this. Is that the point?

Yes that's it - it must be the water! There is no chance it's a general and common reaction to the seedy and underhand practices of the telemarketing industry (you joined or created a new screen name just to whine about this in the NH forum?)

I think it is just coincidence. I can't imagine anyone likes running for the phone only to hear a telemarketer on the other end, so if you've had worse experiences with people in NH than other states it's probably just bad luck. That said, while I completely understand that everyone needs to earn a living, I consider it rude when someone interrupts my dinner, my kids' bedtime, my long distance call with an old friend, etc to try to sell me something I don't want and don't need, so getting a certain number of rude responses probably goes with the territory. BTW, everyone knows about getting their number on the Do Not Call list, right? https://www.donotcall.gov/ If your number is on that list and the telemarketers still call you, they're breaking the law and deserve whatever they get imho.

Default Missed Point

My original post dealt with rudeness not what I do to make rent. By the way, the Do Not Call List allows for charitable fund-raising which is what I do. It is not underhanded nor deceitful. Between being a telemarketer or living on the street, I will take the hang-ups.

I call Ohio, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Arizona and Washington State. Despite the "universal" dislike of telemarketers, New Hampshire is the rudest. Is it the politics? Does "live free or die" just mean "die"?

I don't mind the negative or "rude" comments made here (or at my job). It is part of the business. I am just curious about New Hampshire's bad attitude.

By the way, I am a musician by training and experience - You got a job for me?

I used to do fundraising for charity too - and I know for a fact it is very underhanded, because you get paid by the company who's getting paid to hire you - and they take their percentage - the charity gets 10%, the company who hired you gets about 80% and you get 20%. I know it is to pay the rent - but I had to get out of the business, I was as rude when I got home as the people were to me on the phone - ESPECIALLY IN THIS ECONOMY...and also it was the senior citizens targeted for a minimum $10 and they were called every 3 months with the "you gave LAST campaign" this is a new campaign.

Sorry go sell vacuums it's less intrusive than telemarketing - and as a side note - the do not call list wish the dang companies with the computer generated crap would get the message - I'm on the DNC and still get hounded.
