looking for towns near the coast or at least east NH
Howdy. I'm looking for some suggestions on where to settle in the northeast. Specifically Massachusetts, New Hampshire or Maine. I figure there is less snow in Massachusetts so I posted there first.I'm looking to stay in the eastern part of the state if possible.I'm visiting family in New Hampshire this week, and while it seems nice enough, it's a little quiet for my taste. Any suggestins on what to consider? Thank you in advance.

If you're looking for a busier or more "exciting" town in eastern NH, look no further than Portsmouth. It's right on the coast, so the climate is more moderate than inland areas (including central and western MA).

Ditto....
The other option would be Portland ME (great town!) or Newburyport in MA....although it's pretty pricey.

thanks for the fast answers. I need to check mapquest and explore Portsmith while the suns out. Could be what I want. Maine is too cold for my taste and I get the idea that Massachusetts is more liberal than I want to be. I may be working in the Nashua or Manchester area. Is Portsmith doable from there?

Oh yeah. I wanted to ask what is considered the center of the state? I don't want to be any further than an hour from the coast. Is that doable from Nashua (where I might work) thanks.

I can make it from Hollis, NH to Hampton Beach, NH in just about an hour with no excessive traffic; it's a very easy 3/turnpike north...101 East...and you're there drive.
It is very doable from Nashua/Amherst/Hollis/Bedford/Merrimack, etc...
My "record" is 45 minutes...another time it took me an hour and 20...just to give you an idea.

I think a Portsmouth-Manchester commute can be done in about 50 minutes, and Portsmouth-Nashua in about an hour and 10 minutes, give or take.
You can get to the beach from both Manchester and Nashua in under an hour.
The exact geographic center of NH is in Ashland. But most people consider "central New Hampshire" to be the area between Concord and Plymouth -- Tilton, Laconia, Meredith, etc.
