Default Any pics of the current storm effects?

Hi -
Would love to see photos and hear reports from around the state showing the effects of the current nor'easter. Spring is such a crazy time in NH (not that weather is very predictable at any time of the year in New England).

Gotta love it ('cause we can't bear to leave it!)

I got a note from a friend who's sister lives in Wilton - the friend was teasing me about the weather we'll move up to. Yikes! sounds very scary. I hope everyone up there is ok.

"40 homes have had mandatory evacuation. Emergency shelters are all over the place. It took 3 minutes to read off all the street closings. 94,000 homes with no electricity. The schools that were open this morning are closing early.
Coastal: 16-21 foot seas, Stores on the oceanfront have had their windows blown out. The coastal flood warnings (is it watch or warning? The worst one is what I mean) are on from Maine to Massachusetts.
North Country: 6-16" of heavy wet snow (North Country is the top half of New Hampshire).
2-5" of rain everywhere else...so far...
Wind gusts of up to 55 mph in the southern part of the state. Mount Washington had a wind gust of 131 mph today.
In Wilton we had a landslide on Rt 101 (major East-West road in Southern NH). The fire chief went out to assess damage and a second part of the hill let go. He had to slam it in reverse to get out of the way in time. He says "At this time it is too dangerous to even assess the damage." Every single vounteer fireman has his vehicle parked pell-mell at the fire station.
The river that runs through Wilton center is roaring. They had to open the dam in Greenville (15 miles upstream) to save houses, and now they have to close a bridge in Wilton because the water is touching the bridge. (usually 15 feet down to water) Our road had a river (all right, maybe just a REALLY BIG stream) of water flowing down it at 6am. Main Street was the same way.
I drove down Rt 101 at 6am and on the way back at 10am, it was closed. At 6am it looked like there were at least 4 places which were right to the edge of the highway. One section of road had water washing across for about 50 yards. I saw a car there that must have floated off the road. It was up to the windows. A bunch of people are trapped in their houses in Barrington, because of washed out roads.
It will rain until Wednesday.
See the flood pictures on www.WMUR.com "

WannaComeHome - thank you for that report! Wow. It sounds like a major disaster!! I had heard that 101 is closed, but didn't realize the extent of it all.

We are in NC at this time, and wondered what was happening back in NH. Spring is often rough, what with all the rains that come, but this is unusual. The nor'easters usually occur in the winter, and then it's all snow. That's usually easier to deal with than the floods. Everyone on my street except for 1 house is pumping water! We'll need good water damage cleanup people.

No postings from anyone else, I hope folks are ok. I called my parents in Hollis: a little water in the basement, but carpet cleaner sucked it up - they're mostly worried about all the rain damaging the soil around the sluicegate to the pond (which luckily hasn't gone over the road).

What I want to know is where are all the celebrities? Where's Bush? Where's all the charities to help everyone evacuated from damaged houses? Whre's FEMA? well, maybe we don't want FEMA. <grmbl grmbl...>

Seacoastonline.com has some good storm photos, too. Here in Candia all of our little bridges that cross brooks have been compromised and are still closed, I believe. The next town over, Deerfield, is marooned--ALL roads in and out of the town have been washed out. I got to school two towns over yesterday and our power went out, which made it necessary to send all the little kids back home where, hopefully, someone would be there to greet them. Today I didn't even try to go to work but I see online that after the kids arrived the phone service went out and they had to send them all back home again! because of having no 911 service. With the phones out they weren't even able to activate the phone tree to notify parents.

Luckily we still have the Internet although cable was out yesterday and could go at any time again, I guess. At least we can still stay in touch with the world.

Oh, please, don't send Bush!! We're already dealing with rain and snow and flooding and power outages and no 911! We don't need any more problems!

Don't worry. Pres Bush is on his way to VA Tech, where there's been far bigger trouble than many of us will ever see. For those families, the ripples will go out forever, and keep going out, the rest of their lives. My heart goes out to them.

Compared to that, our floods are nothing.

NHDeb is on a distinguished road
SWB - You are right. THINGS can be replaced - beloved people can not be replaced.

Here in Merrimack the same area of town that was heavily damaged last May is once again under water. People that just finished rebuilding - or haven't even finished - are once again 7 feet deep in water.
Many roads have been washed out all over, lots of damage, 101 was closed due to an enormous mudslide. Thankfully, so far no reports of loss of life.

We are moving to Deerfield and I hope the home I am buying is still there and not washed away. I guess it will be awhile before we can get there. Told the moving company that there were no roads left to get there.

I heard a realtor say that a 1/2 mil $ house she had sold somewhere in So. NH was scheduled to have the inspection yesterday - and water was 2 feet from the front door!!! Ouch.

I guess it's still raining some today, and tomorrow is supposed to clear and be sunny?
