Default Winter is no problem, but what about summer?

I live in Wisconsin right now so the winter is an old friend to me. I am originally from Texas and don't want to move back there because of the heat and humidity.

We are considering a move to the Lancaster area and I was wondering how the summers are in that area.

Summer is no-where near as hot and humid as Texas. They are humid compared to the very dry winters...but we moved here from VA and if VA was a 7 for heat/humidity (Texas being a 9, and Louisiana being a 10)...I'd say NH is a 4.

Not to say there won't be some "oddball" days; but many homes don't even have air conditioning since open windows at night are often all that's needed.

It's pretty nice here! (and I'm in southern NH).

I live right near the Lancaster area and its not too bad. I HATE hot weather so I can handle it. I am moving to VA tomorrow though so I have a feeling I'll be miserable for a while. I will warn you, there is not a whole lot of work going on in that area. Everything is shutting down and laying off. Thats why I'm leaving for the southeast.

Summers in NH are *nothing* compared to Texas.

We do certainly have hot, humid days, but days that are truly unbearable are few and far between. I don't own an air conditioner and I live about 60 miles south of Lancaster (and the majority of people here don't own them, either). There are probably 10-15 days in the entire summer where I wish I had one, but honestly I get by fine with just a fan and an occasional swim in the lake.

Actually, so far this summer we haven't had ANY true hot, humid days over 80 degrees, but the weather this summer has been rather abnormal.

At any rate, Lancaster is so far north in the state that the summers are even milder. Average daytime highs are 74 for June, 79 for July, and 76 for August.

That's good to hear. I always say that I can always bundle up and get warm, but I can only get so nekkid before they arrest me. LOL

I may have the opportunity to work at the hospital in Lancaster and that is why I am looking in the area. We plan to rent for a while and were wondering about the rental places around there. Incase there is nothing there, what others towns are nearby to look at?

If you don't mind a ~30-35 minute one-way commute, your best bet might be Littleton, Berlin, or St. Johnsbury, Vermont. These are the nearest "big" towns. Closer towns are Whitefield, Jefferson, Northumberland, Stark, Lunenberg, VT and Guildhall, VT. Other options are Bethlehem, Carroll / Twin Mountain, Gorham, and Stratford.

Verseau,

Thank you for those names. I will look into them. A short commute is no problem for me as it lets me unwind from work before I get home.
