any opinions on New London, Sunapee or Newbury NH
My husband and I are now retired and are thinking about relocating to Southern NH and purchasing a home. We don't know much about the area. We are considering New London, Newbury and Sunapee. If anyone has any info or opinions on pros and cons of these areas we appreciate some input. We are in our late 50's and enjoy skiing and hiking as hobbies. thanks

You are definitely looking in the right areas. These towns are quite popular with retirees. A con would be that the weekenders from Mass also prefer the area as well.
New London is the most expensive of the three cities in terms of median house price. Sunapee is larger than Newbury, but both occupy land surrounding Lake Sunapee.
These towns are strategically located on I-89 about halfway between Lebanon/Hanover and Concord. It takes 50 minutes to an hour to get to both of those cities.
New London has Colby Sawyer College as well as a hospital.
The area has many state parks as well as lots of conservation land. Overall, I think those towns are all quite nice.

Technically, it is referred to as the Dartmouth/Sunapee region, which is west-central NH.

Dirty and Screwed Up
Why would you want to move there at all? The quality of housing is the worst in the nation and the quality of life is so low.

The quality of housing is fairly high-end in New London, Sunapee, and Newbury. Sure, you will find some more affordable cottages or cabins that have more shoddy construction. These three towns have some of the highest median house prices in the local region. I would say the quality of life is very high (especially for retirees) and the natural beauty of the area is amazing. Jobs are more limited to specific specializations.

lychanthrope, I seem to have missed your introductory post, telling us where in New Hampshire you live(d). You seem to have an amazing amount of 'knowledge' to share with us...

aw he just seems to be an unhappy little troll who doesn't seem to like much. He's posted 4 times, all whiny. Even in the NC thread where he complains about NH women being uglier than anywhere else!
He's just a troll, don't feed him.

What planet are you on?
I have lived part-time in the Lake Sunapee area for many years and find the quality of life outstanding. I have some of the nicest neighbors and friends and nearly everyone I know actively enjoys walking, hiking, biking, kayaking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, etc., in some of the most beautiful areas in the northeast.
The homes are no better or worse than any other area in NH.
