Default Considering Relocating to Coos (western)

I'm male, single, soon to be empty-nester, located in northern plans and considering relocating to NH (or ME - will post separately there). I'll have a modest pension, but probably will want to work at least part-time. I don't ski (no reason to live in ski country). I enjoy walking and gardening. Would prefer convenient library, MD, DDS - not necessarily in same town.

I've visted a number of northern NH towns (nearby VT) and now lean toward western Coos County: Lancaster to Colebrook, possibly a 1-2 towns any direction. I'm interested in hearing from people in the area in NH (nearby VT).

What guidance would you offer? If you relocated there, what has worked well and what has not? What would would have been useful to know? Do communities welcome new people?

Thanks in advance. If I've left out something that would be useful to providing advice, let me know.

CD

I am not sure I would suggest the area. It is horrible for walking because there is nothing around. www.walkscore.com might help you out a bit. If you could find a home right in Littleton it might work a little better for you. If you want to walk in the woods or on the side of a ride with cars running you over it might work for you. Not much on libraries either that I can think of.

CD72709,

I live in Colebrook (can you guess ? ). The only thing I can say about getting a part-time job is , there aren't any ! What with the Groveton mill closed and the Berlin mill before that and now Ethan Allen closing . The area has a glut of people looking for work, any work, full time ,part-time, anything. I myself love it here, even though I have not worked full-time since Feb. I have great neighbors. When asked where we were from (Metro Boston) we find out most of my neighbors are from all over the states (Texas, NJ, Minn. ) So you ask " Will they welcome me ? " I say with a resounding "Yes". The library here in town is well stocked. The hours are to short because of budget restraints but it is still open. There is a DDS & MD here as well as a hospital. I hope this little bit helps

The north country is a mixed bag. It is an extremely beautiful area with tons of outdoor stuff to do, but there are no jobs. If you have the ability, perhaps create your own job out of your house. The internet makes it easy to advertise and sell your services/products, or just offer a much needed service locally.

I like Lancaster in Coos County, and its not that far of a drive to Littleton either.
