Question Industries/businesses in NH

I have done a search on this in the forum already and didn't find much to answer my undoubtedly silly questions so I'm hoping people will have the patience to answer them here:

1) I recently read somewhere that altho NH has one of the lowest (ie; non-existent) tax rates in the country, very few companies have relocated themselves to NH to take advantage of this - why is that?

2) What industries/businesses do exist in NH? Is it difficult to get jobs there even when we're not in a recession?

3) If someone with no experience of living and working in New England (but plenty of experience living & working in the Upper Midwest) were to investigate job opportunities what would be the primary areas to consider living in?

Thanks!

1) Comparing corporate & personal tax rates isn't an apples-apples comparison. Many states have favorable corporate tax structures. NH has the 2nd lowest personal tax burden; not corporate. Not that NH overly taxes corporations- I'm just saying other states have incentives/low tax rates as well. You'll notice that many businesses have come to NH due to the percentage of skilled workers- such companies generally hire in smaller numbers (Autodesk for example), compared to some manufacturing firms which are just looking for cheap labor and instead move south.

2) I'd say it has a full gamut from defense to financial... Finding a job anywhere is hard during a recession, but NH's financially conservative attitude has left the state and many residents "better off" than those in many other states- and that has helped kept the overall state economy in better shape due to peoples abilities to keep buying goods/services.

3) I would focus your search in the corridor between Manchester and Nashua; living in this area you can expand your job search into MA (closer to Boston) as well.

I agree with the previous poster. Londonderry will soon be opening up access to another 800+ acres of industrial land near Manchester Airport when the road from Bedford is completed.

What type of work do you do? Job opportunities are different in different parts of the state. If you work in the tourism sector, for example, you might consider North Conway, while if you work in tech Nashua would probably provide more opportunities.

Local corporations include Stonyfield Farm yogurt in Londonderry, Timberland, and I though Dexter Shoes but couldn't confirm it from their website. Here is a list of the state's biggest employers:

In the end.......we are a small, rural state with only 1.3 million people, thank god. So you can't expect to find some vast jobs creation systen up here. Overall we are still the most stable state in New England economically.

I work in an industry that's always in high demand: marketing and sales with an emphasis on the tradeshow industry. Yes, I am being facetious . I cleverly have a 20-year resume that is heavy on publishing companies and most recently a financial services-related business where I do both executive admin and organise all the logistics for our company's tradeshow attendance.

Thanks for the information and advice - much appreciated
