Fuel Oil companies
So our new house has this fancy Buderis high efficiency heating system, that we know nothing about. What we have learned is that if there's no oil in the tank, there's no hot water in the house! my, those showers were ... bracing.
Looks like we need to get some oil delivered. Talking with some friends and neighbors, we've pretty much got three companies suggested, and I was wondering if anyone has had any dealings or opinions on any of them. I've called them all and their prices are pretty much the same.
Ciardelli Fuel in Milford, Red's of Jaffrey, and AW Peter's in Peterborough. Opinions????

Wanna, I can't comment on the oil companies that you're considering (Fred Fuller is our company of choice, for reasons other than price, though their prices are lower than most others) but wanted to say that if your oil tank has been completely emptied, you might want to have a service performed on the burner, and have the line cleaned out, nozzles checked, etc.
Congrats on buying a house When's the party??

thanks. yeah-whoever it is that fills it, will need to come inside and check it out (which means they'll need to coordinate with LisaF to get in. she's a gem!!!)
Some of them have talked about a 'watchdog system'? Something that connects between the oil tank and the phone, where you can call the phone number every day and if it answers then you have oil and if you get a busy signal it's low?? Or some versions that you can call and it gives you details? Never heard of such a thing! but then, we use natural gas down here, and it just comes through the pipe uninterrupted and the bill comes in the mail (uninterrupted).

Here's a website providing up to date pricing comparaisons.
Personally we've been using Jackson Energy, they show up when you call, ain't saying the others don't...
We generally buy from whoever has the lowest prices at the time. We don't use much oil as we heat with a pellet stove.
As a side note, I've been calling several companies to have a propane tank installed for a stove and Webber Energy of Jaffrey wouldn't even talk to me much less send a technnician out to give me an estimate unless I filed an credit application with them first !
They lost my business.

Thanks, MrTwigg. Of my three, Reds of Jaffrey is the cheapest. Interestingly, I've always heard that Lorden Oil was very expensive, yet they are just under $2! cheaper than any of my 3. I wonder if they come to Greenville....

I've been happy with Lorden. They also consistently had some of the best prices throughout last years entire heating season. If you pay within 10 days you get a cheaper price too...very nice (our is auto-billed, so we always get their lowest price).

What is expensive about Lorden is their fees for service calls, although this is probably not uncommon. They do, however, respond quickly and most of the time provide dependable service.

Ok, thanks you two - that's good to know.
They do come out to Greenville. I'll have to call them on Monday (and the others) and see what their cost would be to check out the system and get it running. They definitely have the lowest retail rate. I know they've been around forever - my oldest brother went to school with a Lorden, and one of the Lorden girls built my sister's house.

Good reliable service is more important than spot price.

You can also use different companies. A friend of mine who works in the Heating & Cooling business tells me to use one company for fuel and another company for upgrades/service/repairs.
That said, I was very happy with the technician from Lorden who did our yearly cleaning.
