For the past three weeks I have been leaving the house at 4:25 AM to be at work at 5 AM. If the stars are visible I stop a minute and scan the sky. I haven't seen anything unusual but I was wondering if anyone out there has seen anything odd or "UFO" like recently or in the past.
Since moving to NH I have only seen some spectacular meteors and one moving star that changed direction.
NH was once considered a hotbed of UFO activity back in the 60's. Does anyone have any stories?

Yinduffy, somewhere in cyberspace is a site about UFO sightings in Exeter. If I remember correctly, they hold a UFO event in Exeter too. I can't claim to have seen any unidentified phenomenon, but I am an amateur astronomer myself - long ago before I moved from NH I remember seeing comet Hyakutake and the other comet around that same time (name eludes me). The spectacular meteors you mention are incredible to witness, as are fireballs (which can exhibit colors). Here in Hollis there are too many 100ft or taller pines on my property to see much sky at all...in my time in SoCal and because of dh's work I became fascinated with watching satellites but never saw one change direction!!! what do you think that was?

I can watch the satellites stream by any starry night from my deck.

Come on by, bring your tin foil hat.

We see satellites all the time from our deck too. A lot of times when we're chillin' in our hot tub on the deck, we'll watch them. We can see as many as 7 or 8 in an hour or 2 or none at all. My boyfriend claims to have seen a UFO years back in Exeter, my brother-in-law claims to have seen one in VT. I never have....but wouldn't be surprised if there IS life out there. Why not, right?? I mean can we seriously be the ONLY ones?? LOL

to think that the 'mighty' human race is the ONLY 'life' in the universe is pretty narrow thinking....scientifically speaking, given the size of the universe....

Is there? Isn't there? For me, to think WE are the only ones does not fly.....there's gotta be in my eyes.....but that's just me

What gets me is the conspiracy folks that think EVERYTHING is a cover-up....

When my wife and I were much younger, we went camping in the hills of the Kittatinny Mts. in NJ. Laying there watching the stars one evening, we both watched 'an object' move across the night sky from north to south. At about just overhead, it promptly made a very direct HARD 90 deree turn, and sped off out of sight.....still don't know what we saw, but it was pretty cool.

When I was a kid, my grandmother would spot odd things in the sky all the time in the Monadnock region. I have seen them with her, and I still don't know what they were.

The details are foggy. It was a long time ago that I was told this story. A friend of mine and his father saw a 'ufo' over the trees near rt. 101 and rt. 9 (I believe) in Keene some twenty years ago. They only told friends about it (that's how I know of it,) but the weird thing is that as the internet blossomed in the '90's, there was a website (I think it consisted of declassified gov. docs) that had their story on it. They showed me this after it was brought to there attention. I believe that there are other life forms out there, but this story is still hard for me to believe, and I've seen the website. I believe there is now a book that was made from the website too.

Speaking of things in the night sky can you see the Northern Lights anywhere in NH? I saw them one night when I was in Idaho and it was the most fantastic thing to see. The lights were pulsing different colors across the whole sky. WOW I would love to see that again.

My Realtor, who is a Madison native, claims they are very easy to see in the long nights of Jan/Feb..

I'm hoping to see them too.

YEAH... Can't wait to see it again. Wish I could find someone to buy my house so I can get to NH sooner!
