No one said NH is a utopia......it's just better than most other places, and that's enough for most of us.

New Hampshire is a wonderful place to live on a adequate income, say $100,000+ and a not so good place if you are making much less, say $50,000-. This is because the property tax is not proportional to your income and continues even if you lose that income due to hard times or simple retirement. This is not surprising because it was set up in the "good old days" of self interested wealthy Republicans. The amazing thing is how well they indoctrinated the workers, on workers wages, to think this is a good thing. I disagree with NH's tax system. I guess I failed the financial indoctrination and respect for the rich 101.
As far as a reasonable government taking away your freedoms I would argue that I, and many others, really prefer restaurants without the stench of tobacco smoke. I also do not appreciate the self-centered fools that think they can text while driving. If they just went off the road and injured themselves, so long as I don't have to pay any part of their medical bills, I wouldn't be very concerned. Unfortunately they, like the drunks, endanger me and my friends. I really object to that. I feel about the same about wearing a helmet when riding a motorcycle. No skin off my ass if you ride bare headed and become an organ donor. I case you are wondering my 'Nam experiences just about destroyed my sympathy nerves.
I am a member of the Londonderry and Rockingham County Democratic Committees and am working hard to keep Democrats in office and to elect many more. The main reason is to stop the nonsensical Republican “penny wise and pound foolish” economic policies along with the pernicious influence the Kristian Churches have in the Republican Party. Keep god in the churches and out of the government.

Easy killer. Property everywhere are based on the value of the home. This isn't a NH specific thing. Why do you always complain about paying taxes but always want guys like me to pay more?

While I agree with much of what is being said, the state has to keep up with the times. I don't want some idiot texting while traveling down the road at 65mph slamming into me. There is freedom and there is safety.

I have no idea how they would police texting. I guess they would issue a citation if the driver was dumb enough to still be texting while being pulled over for speeding...

Well unless you crossed in to his lane, he's already broken a law without texting. Do you honestly think a BAN on texting is going to keep you safer?
Seriously a ban on texting is like making guns illegal in hopes of preventing murder.

Well we already have a Distracted Driving law which is supposed to cover all aspects of driving while doing whatever. However that is not sufficient enough for nanny staters. They want to control every aspect of your life under the guise of "protecting" you. Why is driving while texting any more dangerous than driving while eating, putting on make up, changing a radio station, using your cell phone, etc? The fact that they implement a texting ban while we already have a Driver Distracted law only shows how this is about control and not safety.

And how do they tell the difference between someone texting and dialing a phone number on their cell phone? What if I am using my Blackberry and I dial a phone number? It would look the same as if was typing on my keyboard. I see this as a backdoor way of trying to ban cell phone use while driving. And also a revenue generator.

Study: Texts While Driving Even More Dangerous - ABC News
I am not saying that "banning" texting while driving solves anything at all, but it appears that texting is far more dangerous than talking on a cell phone while driving.
