Default Job moving to Nashua, I'm seeking to move also

Hello. I'm a single 24 year old looking to get out on my own (finally.) I currently live in a rural area south of Worcester and commute to Hudson MA - long drive, but it's a job. The company however is moving next month to Nashua, and luckily for me I had some interest in moving out and to New Hampshire. However I know very little about the Nashua area, so was looking for some advice from you fine people out there. *** My job isn't that well paying, I'm probably looking at 1200-1300 a month after taxes. (Not sure how much of a raise I'll get with no MA taxes, but I can't imagine too much.) So that obviously reduces my options. But I don't need much for space, just a one bedroom condo or apt for myself. So obviously a potential rent would be lower on that fact. What would I be looking at for monthly cost? *** Any areas to look for, or away from? I prefer not to be near hospitals (constant sirens) or areas with higher police activity and drug issues. Nearby towns are ok, I just do not wish to commute too far. *** Also curious about the scenes in regards to music, and bars with good microbrew selections. Not into the wild hip-hop/Top 40 clubs or anything like that. *** And this would be highly appreciated: I used to live in Danbury, Conn. and these two look to be about similar size. If anyone out there knows about both and can compare and contrast, that would be wicked awesome.

3CHARMD is on a distinguished road
Hi,
I have lived in Nashua for the past 3 years, rent is not cheap, so maybe you are looking at getting a second job... Traffic is not bad and there are plenty of stores, restaurants, etc. The winter is horrible with lots of snow, but I guess you are used to it. lol
Where I live there is no significant crime rate, and I am just 10 or 15 minutes away from downtown Nashua. I pay around $1000 a month with heat, hot water, gas and washer and dryer INSIDE my 1 bedroom apartment. it's not a bad deal if you consider heating prices and laudry fees, not to mention the inconvenience of having to leave your house to do laundry, but like I said before, it's not cheap.
I am actualy considering relocating somewhere warmer and with a less crazy weather within the next year or so, any sugestions?
I hope this helps.

If I have to get a second job on the weekends, that's fine.

I did a tour today around Nashua. Well, it was more like walking up and down Main St. downtown, then driving around other parts of town. Nice day to do it. Saw the art show/sale out in the park on Concord St., a farmers market on the Main St. Bridge, there was a band next to said market for a little while. So there was some life, which was nice.

Seems a pretty nice town, but most of it would be out of my range. Bummer. And I noticed one area around Hollis/Kinsley between Main and St. Joseph's that wasn't so good. Hopefully I could land a decent find.

I'm hoping there's more of something that goes on downtown. Maybe it was dead cause it was Sunday afternoon, but hopefully there's more of a bar and music club scene. I did manage to find a place called Martha's Exchange, which was nice. Can't go wrong with a downtown brewpub.

It was a rather warm weekend and with the weather we have been having we are not used to a hot spell. I went down main street this afternoon and saw few pedestrians but a sidewalk restaurant had a lot of tables in use. I was in Greeley park too and it was busy on Saturday with group picnics but again it was a little too warm for anyone to just casually stroll about.
There is a big billboard overlooking main st. advertising apartments from the Stabile Co. nearby. We noticed houses with "for rent" signs today too. I'm sure there are a lot of options for renting but you may have to ask the right people or drive around. There are big condo complexes in the city and I'm sure some can be rented.

Well, I lost said job which was moving to Nashua. (d'oh) But I'm still very interested in the southern New Hampshire region. Looking for a new start, sick of things down here, I've got enough libertarian thought to disregard staying in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

I should probably get started on finding work in that part of the world, I can only imagine the job market is better there than down here in the lib states.

Sorry that you lost your job. New Hampshire is doing better than the rest of New England but there is still higher than usual unemployment here. Unfortunately, out of control tax and spending has come to NH and if it continues, we will be just like the other New England states. Taxes, fees, you name it as well as spending is completely out of control. Small business and tourism have been hit with tax and fee increases especially hard and that is where a great deal of the employment traditionally is.

Good luck on your job search!

I would imagine New Hampshire would still be better in taxes, fees, etc... than the rest of the region. Otherwise, what is an alternative? Idaho? Montana?

I've heard good things about Boise, but I'd prefer to stay in New England.

And hopefully in a few years the pesky tax n' spend people can start losing, right the ship.

sorry to hear about the job, hope you find one around Nashua (at least it's a likely area). Best of luck to you.
