Hello. Can someone please tell me a bit about Derry? I've seen it described as "dumpy" on this board. I've checked the real estate listings, and I noticed that many rental properties are available, but many of the properties that are for sale seem quite nice/charming and have very decent acreage. From what I can tell, the property taxes aren't exactly low, so I'm wondering what makes it "dumpy." Thanks in advance to all who reply -- I greatly appreciate your help!!!

I only spent one afternoon there. The business area did seem rather dumpy. Lots of strip malls, shopping centers, parking lots, etc. But some of the residential areas seemed nice enough.

I live next door to Derry in Londonderry, NH. Yeah, Derry's main streets have a considerable length of strip malls, but hey, that the were the zoning puts the businesses. The residential area vary from in town bungalows to semi-rural ranch houses and from antique to very recent. There are quite a few houses for sale because a large construction project (the infamous Boston Big Dig) had been nearly completed.

Londonderry's housing is mostly larger and higher priced. Both town have excellent schools. Look around and decide for yourselves.
