Squam Lake, where "On Golden Pond" was filmed

Adam Sandler, who was raised in Manchester and attended Central High.

Robert Frost farm in Derry, about which many of his poems are said to be written.

Dean Kaymen (spelling??) who invented the Segway (I would love to try one of those things!!)

Recycled Percussion (from Goffstown) who is going nation wide with the "America's Got Talent" show. How cool to have seen these guys in person many times in the last several years at the Derry summer concert series!

And of course, the very best fall foliage anywhere!

NH became the first state to declare its independence from Great Britain in January of 1776 and was the first US state to have it's own state constitution.

We have the largest state legislature in the US which also happens to be the fourth-largest English-speaking legislative body in the entire world. (Why?)

Dartmouth College

The Free State Project

The guy who invented Tupperware was from Berlin.

Mt. Washington Hotel hosted the Bretton Woods Conference in 1944 which established the IMF and World Bank.

The Treaty of Portsmouth formally ended the Russo-Japanese War in 1905.

Dan Brown is the author of Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code.

Franklin Pierce was the 14th President of the US.

The segway is made here.

Shortest coastline of any coastal state.

The Piscataqua has one of the fastest flows for a navigable river in North America.

Autumn color (that must have been mentioned already, but its worth re-emphasizing)

Two year governor terms (VT is the only other state with this short a term).

The first transatlantic telegraph cable came ashore in Rye (hence Cable Road - which I lived on for a couple of months)

Cogger is on a distinguished road
First mountain climbing railway in the U.S.

In 1863, President Lincoln established the first national Thanksgiving Day, inspired by letters from Sarah Josepha Hale of Newport, New Hampshire.

First meeting of the Republican Party was in Exeter NH in 1853.

First legal lottery in the nation, 1963/64.

The first telecommunication cable from europe was laid at Rye beach.

These aren't necessarily things the state is famous for, but interesting, none the less.

The first free public library was opened in Peterborough in 1833 (John Harvard of Mass's book donation was to a university, and Franklin's libraries were subscriber run - you had to buy a membership).
