NH is ranked as the safest state as well as first in quality of life.

Without kids, I would want to live in Downtown Portsmouth in a Condo by the river. I could enjoy the waterview and be able to walk downtown. ( I would also take any home along the ocean) With kids, I would like to live in Concord, Bow, or Hollis, good schools, quiet living.
I wouldn't want to live in Whitefield, too far, too cold and not sure of what there is for employment. (But if you are into the mountains and outdoor activities, I can see where people would enjoy it.)

So do tell mcd32127, what you base your post on? Did you live in NH? Visit NH? And I'll be happy to accept any donations you want to make NOT to live in NH...

At this point in my life, if I could live anywhere in NH I'd probably choose Portsmouth. There's a lot to do, it has a walkable downtown with all the amenities you need, fairly easy access to Boston and points north as well. Plus I'm a sucker for historical architecture (not to mention the ocean).
I like Keene for similar reasons, but it just doesn't interest me quite as much as Portsmouth. If I were to live in the Monadnock Region, I think I'd have to choose Hancock -- another "history lover's delight" kind of town. It hasn't really changed much in 200 years.
Ultimately, though, I think the Lakes Region will call back to me -- I live there now and while my town isn't perfect, I do like it an awful lot. You've got the lakes in one direction and the mountains in another... My ideal little town would probably be Sandwich, for its history and tranquility.
Honorable mentions go to the towns of Cornish and Gilmanton for their historic interest and idyllic beauty. Sugar Hill is my favorite little town in the White Mountains (probably the most beautiful location on this list). I'm also fond of the Alton-Wolfeboro-Tuftonboro side of Lake Winnepesaukee.
I suppose there are some parts of Manchester and some of the other big towns down south that I'd rather not live in, but honestly I'd take anywhere in NH over most other places in the country. And while I think that the Great North Woods is one of the most beautiful and interesting parts of the state, I'm not sure if I could deal with the weather and isolation north of the White Mountains for too long.

Rye beachfront - why: beautiful coastline, low taxes, most of the tourists go to hampton
Nashua - lots of traffic, lots of Mass transplants, inner city, not very NH

You've been gone awhile. The paper mill is closed in Berlin.
