I was curious if the locals could give us some good spots for eating out in the manchester/nashua/concord area? Not the overpriced places, but some good hole in the walls? like the best place for a NY style slice of pizza? a philly cheesesteak? fish and chips, w/ hushpuppies? ha.... love to hear the have to places to visit!

The Red Arrow was always a fun place to go.

Bff66389 told us about Shira Kiku and it's our favorite restaurant in Nashua. Really good Korean food and sushi and the people who work there are amazingly nice.

Shira Kiku - Nashua, NH

There's also a good, cheap Vietnamese place on Main St:

Vietnam Noodle House - Nashua, NH

You will not find a Philly cheesesteak anywhere in NH. You will find steak and cheese which is nothing like it at all.

The only real NY style pizza I have found in NH is at Elvios' with locations in Lincoln-where we go and they have a smaller location in N. Conway(both locations are up north). Most of the pizza in NH is Greek style pizza which is not like NY pizza at all. I have tried a lot of places around the state claiming to be real NY pizza and most are no where near it. The only other place that I have found that is halfway decent is Ken's West End in Portsmouth. I don't go out of my way to get them but if we are in Portsmouth we pick up a pie just because it is so difficult to get something resembling a NY pie up here. Elvios on the other hand we drive there-45 minutes away-specifically to get it because it is so good.

I know that they opened up a Pizzeria Reginia in the Mall of NH in Manchester. They are out of Boston and are also good pizza. We eat at the original one whenever we are in Boston and if we are in the Burlington MA mall we pick up a pie. I have never been to the one in Manchester so I don't know how the quality of that one is although I plan on trying it the next time we are there. They are not really a NY pie but they are thin with good sauce and cheese and cooked the right way and a pretty good pie.

I don't know what you consider cheap, but Hart's Turkey Farm is awesome. If you like caesar wraps, you have to try the Turkey Caesar Wrap. It's only like $8.50 and comes with fries. They have amazing full turkey plate meals if you're willing to spend a bit more. Not really a hole in wall, or a secret at all, but I love that place.

The Clam King on 2nd in Manchester has really good fried clams. It's the kind of place where you order at the counter, but the food is excellent. Wonderful french fries and onion rings, too.

It's not really in the areas you mentioned but it's worth every cent of gas it takes to get there (exit 7 off 101, head south for 3-4 miles)

www.goodycoles.com

Seriously the best BBQ I've ever had......

I second Hart's. Although it is in the Lakes region and not southern NH, if you are ever in Meredith check it out-good food, real homestyle feel. I love their stuffing.

I agree on this one. We got to liking BBQ while living in the St. Louis area, and this place was a great find, thanks to "NH Best Of"!

And Manchester to Brentwood is only 30ish minutes...
