Moving from the south

My in-laws retired from the Bay area of California a few years ago to a tiny town near Littleton. They supplement their retirement with consulting the can do over the web. They love it here and the rest of the family is glad they could rescue and rebuild the farm house the grand parents lived in for a few decades.

Jobs are very scarce in the north but, if you can work on the web and not have to be in a formal "office" North of the Notch is a great place.

I suggest you find the location of the nearest LL Bean outlet store. As you have not experienced a NH winter this store will become your friend. There is one in Littleton but we prefer Lahouts for winter gear.

Also have your car undercoated before winter or it will be destroyed by rust. Any body shop can do this. Also buy another set of wheels for your car from an auto recycle yard and get four good snow tires (I am fond of the Cooper Tire brand) mounted and put on your car. Summer and “all season” tires are not as safe in a NH winter. If you do locate to northern NH take a winter driving course at Tim O’Neil’s rally school in Dalton (near Littleton). Learning to drive on ice and packed snow is NOT something you want to do out on the public highway.

Excellent information! It is going in my "move" folder. I was very curious about the salt hurting a vehicle because on our way back home to LA from Maine last year we noticed our car was coated in white. I hosed it down underneath and all. I hope i did a good enough job. Thank you!

The coating was salt and binder. Most likely you did not wash all of the nasty stuff from all the cracks and crannies. The slow path to auto oblivion has begun but should take awhile. One of my cars is 18 years old and has had the frame repaired and the other is 12 with some minor rust showing. Both have around 180 k miles.
