Default Does anyone know anything about Danville?

My husband was transfered to Salem, NH for his job and now we are all staying in Nashua while we look for a house. We found places we like in Danville, but are hard pressed to find anyone who can give us info on what it is like to live there - most people just tell us that it is more rural - but they have not actually lived in or near there..We have 2 little ones (ages 1 and 3) so obviously schools are important, and although I don't mind rural I am a stay at home mom and don't want to be cut off from all civilization...any thoughts?? Thanks so much.

You asked about Danville...
Danville is a rural town, but really, it's not so far out of the way that you can't get to conveniences pretty easily. There is a convenience store but for the most part, you'll be heading to Hannafords to do your grocery shopping (intersection of Routes 111/121 in Hampstead, just over the Sandown border). Danville is part of the Timberlane district, and students will feed into Timberlane HS in Plaistow, along with Atkinson and Sandown. Services/sports are somewhat limited, as you might expect with only 5,000 or so residents. You're not really "in the middle of nowhere" but you might feel that way sometimes... As long as realize that you'll need to plan ahead and spend some time traveling out of town on a fairly regular basis, and prepare for a 'slower pace' in a very quiet and rural town, you just might find "your spot" in Danville.

back in 1989 it was home to one of the largest illegal tire dumps in the state. When the place caught fire that year it took firefighters from 20 towns to help get it under control.

Dirt was trucked in from around the region to help squelch the flames. That wasn't the first fire either. The first one was in 1985 and it took weeks to burn out. Everyone had to live with the thick black smoke pollution.

After that the owner was ordered to clear the illegal dump, but he didn't have the funds to do so. The EPA was supposed to help also ...then, the state got a court judgment that the owner pay $1.3 million toward the clean up. LOL can't squeeze water from a stone. If he didn't have the money before the judgment, he wasn't going to miraculously have it because a judge said he had to pay it. Ernie Hunt, the owner, AKA the Tire King, was sentenced to a year in jail in 1991.
