Big Increase in Property Taxes? NH
Please post here about how high your property taxes have gone up. Mine have increased 600.00 dollars. What are people going to do that live on a fixed income? My DH is a disabled Vet.......This was a state increase in all of New Hampshire I was told by my town? Is this correct?
Thanks,
Carrie

I haven't gotten the quarterly bill yet, but I'll definitely let you know if ours goes up too. If it's a state issue then it probably will. Now you got me wondering about it after reading your post, yikes a rooni if it's a $600 raise, that's definitely a lot....I'll keep you posted....

I am considering a move to the Lakes Region as I think property taxes will rise to astronomical levels here in the Merrimack Valley. I have noticed a small increase in the bill. My best advice is to attend the town budgetary meetings and encourage others to go as well. The more involved and educated the populace is on town financial issues the better off we all are. One town that has town meetings all the time is Moultonborough. They also have the lowest property taxes of any "town" in the state...

I'm afraid to see what ours are going up to. Mascenic High needs repairs, Greenville elementary & Boynton Middle school also need repairs. at least one New Ipswich elementary school needs replacing, so a chunk of land has been bought at obscenely low cost, and a school will need to be built. Plus pod rentals, and for some reason they also decided to vote in a raise for the teachers and staff as well. ouch. Luckily they will get a low interest (no interest?) loan and money kicked in on the building from stimulus funding and the state. It will still hurt, but it will be a lot less.

Our property taxes went down this year, not by a lot, but they went down.
I think whoever you spoke with is not well informed.

+1 it's pretty simple. Your taxes are based on what your town thinks it needs to spend. If you're sick of paying high taxes get the liberals out of your town office.

not always that easy. Sometimes you have to build a new school (since the state has locked out the other two elementary schools) and fix up the remaining schools before they're locked out. it was all on referrendum, everything passed with a wide margin, actually about 30% turnout. Has to be done, but it's still going to hurt (and taxes are going to jump).

There is a difference between necessity and wasteful spending; good politicians will manage one and reduce the other.

Since "conservatives" have incurred 905 of US debt why bother?
Libs spend on schools, cons on their cousins paving business.
