Question General Info On Monthly Utility Bills Please

So, I think I have decided that New Hampshire is where I would like to live. I have found a lot of beautiful homes that are available for rent within the 800-1400 range. However, this does not include utilities of course. People keep telling me that utilities are ultra expensive in NH, but what one considers expensive might be cheaper for someone else and vise versa.

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to post just general information on what utility bills are like each month.

Here are just 5 of the 21 houses I have found that are the type of house we are looking for- I did not find any that include many if any utilities or had all electric Thank you once again for any feedback/response

Electricity: $150 (forced air oil furnace + electric hot water + A/C)

Oil: $145/month when spread over 12 months

Water: Free, well

This is with a 35 year old 72% efficient oil furnace...we burned 580 gallons last year. We're getting a 95% efficient condensing unit with ECM motor blower...so I'm expecting at least a 20% cut in our oil usage and probably $10/month+ in electricity savings as well as a result. There are BIG savings to be had in utilities by choosing the right appliances/equipment for your home.

NEOhioBound has a spectacular aura aboutNEOhioBound has a spectacular aura aboutNEOhioBound has a spectacular aura aboutNEOhioBound has a spectacular aura about
I contacted several listing agencies of the homes that I would love to rent if I were moving in 30 days. I was trying to figure out what utility costs would be for hose homes to see if they would be something we could afford with rent. I asked each listing agency about the what the ROUGH ESTIMATE had been to run utilities (say for the previous renter/owner for the previous year)

Those that have replied have basically not been able to provide ANY Information stating:

"So, I emailed various agencies that had some houses listed that if we were to move in the next 30 days that we would like to move into. A couple have already replied with basically the same statement (even though I asked for an ROUGH ESTIMATE and not EXACT COST)

"We do not quote utility costs because it is very subjective - while some residents keep lights on, turn heat up others are more conservative. Any quote would certainly be just a guess."

That is pretty irritating that if a potential renter were to look into a utility cost, that the rental agency would not be willing to give such information I would think that they would know what the utilities were for a full year from the previous renter/owner

Which I understand it would be just a guess since they wouldnt know how high we heat the house or how many lights we would leave on/off compared to previous renter/owner, but they should still know what the utility costs where roughly for each month for a full 12mth cycle from previous renter/owner

Default If you have the adress...

call the utilities that service the location. They can usually give you a last 12 months average for service.

I just did it to find wich of the apt complexes I was looking at here in FL had the lowest average for electric. Kind of tells you which ones are best insulated. (So cheaper _and_ quieter.)

Also.. consider this, if you will. I live in a mobile home in FL, and I keep my A/C at 82 degrees. I use electric, oil-filled heaters. My electric bill in the winter last year (nov, dec, jan) was about $200-250pe month, from April to August this year, it was $500-600 per month. $200-250 a month for elec _and_ gas is cheap!

New Hampshire's beauty, economics, and politics have snared another one. I'm moving late summer next year. Gotta save some money and find work.

Please keep in mind that utility information may not available to the information agency who lists the property for rent. The agency lists the property, and is providing that service to the property owner. Utilities are usually paid directly by the tenant, so the property owner would need to get this information from the previous tenants and provide it to the agent.

Also remember that the listing agency works solely for the property owner, and may be working under instruction NOT to disclose utility information, especially if it's higher than might be expected. If you have the name of the utility (electric will be Public Service of NH or Unitil, most likely), you may be able to get usage information directly from them. If the property is heated with oil, it could be provided by any one (or more) of many oil companies...

Thank you. I think I will just wait until I find out exactly what area of NH we will be locating to and then contact utility companies that provide services to that area to see what average rates are at time per whatever measure the unit is in (gallon for instance)
