Question State Education Fees Please Help

We have been looking at moving to New Hampshire for the past 2 yrs with thanks to some of you we decided on Littleton. We will be moving sometime
in July or August. But we are concerned about the state education rate of
3.33 per 1000.00 of total equalized valuation. How is this collected quarterly or seperate bill. Is it assest of selling price of home or percentage of home??
If this based on assest value on 200,000 home we are talking about 6,660.00
in addition to property tax is this correct or are we reading this incorrectly.
Please help.

I think your estimate is high by a factor of 10 or 100. I'll have to ask my bill payer.

Got to the nh web site http://www.nh.gov/revenue/property_tax/assessment_review_rpts/2005.htm[/url] site and look up the town you are interested in. Littleton's tax rate is 20.22 (2005) per thousand so on a 200,00 assessed value the tax would be 4044.00 per year (these are approximate figures). You may be eligible for an abatement. It will break down how much per thousand the tax assessment and break down how much for schools, etc. Being originally from NH our taxes were collected twice a year (June and December) Tax bills are broken down so you can see how much goes to what, but in the end it's all on the same bill and all inclusive in the total. Go to the Vision Appraisal web site, many towns are listed there and you just need to know the address of the property or the owner's name or map and book page of the property you are interested in to find the assessed value by the town that is being taxed. Good luck

Hi roerinaci - I was going to suggest you call the town and ask them to explain it to you, but you already did that We did the same thing before we bought our house - If you look at the houses on the internet, most of them will have the amt. paid in taxes. I can't remember if it was just the MLS site that had that or the realtor sites. Either way, it will give you at least a ballpark figure to work with.

Also if either you or your husband/wife is a veteran, they do give you a break on taxes, at least in Littleton, and I think someone said that's true for the state (but I'm not positive). We weren't eligible for it this year because we hadn't lived here for a year when we filed for it. We had to file by April 1st, we moved here April 20th of last year, so we were short a few days

When you get to Littleton, let me know!
