Hi All,
Well we are on our way to NH. My DH accepted a position in Portsmouth and will be heading out after Christmas. I will be staying behind with the kids till the house sells.
We are looking for an apartment for him in Portsmouth. Any suggestions? Looking for a one/two bedroom , one bath which is walking distance/short drive to town. Something that includes major kitchen appliances also.
First off - congrats...2nd, almost any apartment includes major appliances (exception would be microwave and washer/dryer). Many apartments include heat/water (you might have to pay for hot water in the electric bill, but you don't pay sewer/water bill).

What is your budget for a 1/2 bedroom? What is the longest commute that is reasonable for him?
One thing I've noticed is that alot of apartments back east don't have washer dryer hookups, unless they are very expensive units...but I would suggest trying to find one that does. It's worth every penny to buy your own W/D. Dragging your laundry out to the laudry facilities in 10 degree weather isn't alot of fun...especially coming from SoCal.
I always make the washer dryer thing a top priority when looking for places.
there were multiple drug busts in Portsmouth today - all low scale dealers dealing less than an oz of weed up to 1/2 pound - the problem is they were busted for selling to high school kids.

portsmouth is fun although it seems like it is getting over run by snippy yuppies who say things like well this would be better/faster in boston / nyc etc etc etc
as for housing less than $1000 you will not find much around portsmouth please be careful and dont move to beechstone / stonecroft they charge you for your water bill at what ever rate they choose (other places are free or charge you the city rate) and many of my friend have had $300-500/ month water bills and no possible way to fight it they come to your house once a month and claim to read your meter then you get your bill and it could vary a few years back a couple i knew really didnt have people over had no washing maching limited toilet flushes rarly used anything that needed to be washed because they were having huge 500+/month water bills w/o using the washer dryer and just regular life there did not seem to be any consistancy or regular rate for water usage beechstone/ stonecroft/ (?? they have 3 complexes from this one company all in the same block)this is a big housing area the slums are primaraly ths apartment complexs in portsmouth
*ledgewood now called ? wedgewood (i think)
*osprey landing has decent places but higher crime it has expensive townhouse mixed with city welfare housing
*beechstone nice looking but not nice to live there
