I left NH at the age of 18. Thinking "I can go to college anywhere and see the rest of America" I treaded of to north Texas where I had brothers and sisters living. Hot, dead grass, Hotter months, water conservation, busy busy in a hurry, drive by shootings...all I wanted was a cowboy hat and to boot scoot! I lived my 20's in the burbs of Dallas, rat packed side by side million dollar homes two blocks from run down neighborhoods. Interesting and full of culture, I saw the Patriot movie and just got so homesick.

I remember learning about the Boston Tea Party. Taking the Paul Revere tour and a little lady coming out of her house on the tour with lemonade in the spring talking about the bullet holes still in her porch from Muskets and the "red coats". She showed us the holes still in her porch and smiled with pride. I can say "one if by land, two if by sea" and people don't look at me funny up in NE.

The colonial houses and towns.

Sturbridge village tours in the summer.

The Boston Pops and great fireworks.

Trips to Boston with my high school friends and old north church.

Autumn drives in the white mountains and seeing waterfalls that I never knew I'd never see again after I left.

Antiques and covered bridges....

The list goes on and on for me. I miss home. I hope I can return soon. I was grateful to be born in such a wonderful place, and to know of true beauty in America.

For me it's the Pats playing in the Fall, the smell of a woodstove cooked breakfast and playing with my kids in a new fallen snow. You cannot get any better than that!

Thank all of you for reminding me why I love New England. I think we will find a small house somewhere in central New Mexico and snowbird the winters. The rest of the year (May to November) we will live in NH.

....hmmm....I love everything about New England. All the seasons especially. I enjoy seeing how everything changes around you instead of the same thing everyday(season). All the different tree's, winding road, hill's, and those stone wall's everywhere. Everytime I'm driving somewhere and I see a stone wall I always wonder about the people that built it during that period in time. That's a lot of rocks!
I think mostly the changing of the seasons is what does it, because everything else that goes with it makes the entire picture......New England.
Good topic!

For a second I thought I was reading the script for the Jimmy Stewart movie "It's a Wonderful Life." Many of the listed attributes are very symbolic of New England, but when you really sit down and honestly evaluate each based over time it's pretty evident that many have been eroded and some actually are endangered. It's nice to dream though.

[checking his pocket] There they are! Bert, what do you know about that! Merry Christmas!"

"Merry Christmas Bedford Falls!! Merry Christmas you old Building and Loan!!"

I love that movie!! I watch it every year (at least three times)!!

Sorry............I'm digressing..............
