Another advantage of moving now would be you'd have your residency so would be eligible for in-state tuition fees - that's if your senior would be going to a university in your new area. You'd also be closer to check out colleges in the area. It really depends on their feelings about the move - if you'd planned to leave in a year anyway they'd still have to leave old friends, etc so I'd say go for it. It sounds like a great opportunity.

Thank you so much! Will do! We'll be somewhere in Rockingham County...
Check out Hampton, or Seabrook they are in Rockingham county. My prefernce is Hampton...Stay away from the beach unless you love crowds noise and partying all day and night during spring and summer. Seabrook is a nice town (small town feel) its quirky but it has a great school system(although they do not have a HS the kids go to Hampton)....Portsmouth is also nice and if you go to Strafford County check out Dover ...its a short commute to Rockingham County and I loved it...
Good Luck
Lisa

I am also living in the inland empire and can't wait to get back to the new england area. We are trying to sell our home and move to new hampshire but it is not looking good for us - Our oldest is in 7th grade and we don't want to wait much longer. I moved alot as a kid, and it's tough. Especially going from one coast to the other, you will definitely experience a culture shock! Is your son up for the adventure? Listen to him and your heart - not the pocketbook. New England is awesome and I wish you luck with your decision, the only thing you will miss about california is .....hmm, i'm not sure.....

You have to look at life as an adventure, because it NEVER goes as planned! At least not in my experience. You have to roll with it's ebbs and flows; opportunites and challenges as they come, and do the best that you can. It's impossible to please all the people all the time. Some compromises always must be made. But that's part of the fun too! It leads us to unexpected discoveries, interesting places and new relationships. But it does take courage! Good luck!

It's funny, these conversations sound like one that I could have been having several years back. Due to a job relocation within my husband's company, my family moved from Massachusetts to the St. Louis MO area in 1997. I had a really hard time with this decision.... be jobless or move.... gee what a choice! My son was at that time a senior in HS, and he decided to stay in Mass. and graduate with his class, live with family members until graduation, then move out to St. Louis to go to college. We got to experience a new way of life in Missouri, made wonderful new friends, lived where there was reasonably priced housing, and had an overall great experience. However the call of the ocean, the mountains and the thought of living in neighborhoods without "restrictive covenants" eventually called us back. Oh yeah, family too (tho sometimes we missed being able to be AWAY from all of the family drama...) Happily back in New England where we belong

New Hampshire has so much to offer... every time I go to the beach (admittedly more often in the off season than in summer) or hiking up north, or to the cape... the cool crisp fall days... winter (though that gets real old by April!) I love living in 4 seasons. Rockingham county runs from the seacoast all the way to Londonderry... and there is nothing that is too far to get to... an hour (or less) from the beaches, under 2 hours to the mountains, couple hours to the cape, 30 miles to boston, a short ride to Manchester airport... what's not to like, Well maybe the property taxes but hey, we got no income tax OR sales tax!!
