joppa... if you are wishing to avoid the heaviest snowfall and somewhat moderated temperatures, consider settling closer to the seacoast. The ocean has a "warming effect" on snowfall, and generally the further west/north you travel, the colder and more snowfall you'll experience.

Thanks Valerie, I did check on the coast side of NH, but I did see that around Portsmouth it looks as if it has been hit by flooding? We get lots of flooding here in the UK and its expected every year now (global warming etc, but that would be for another thread). Any areas that you know are likely to get flooded? Or is there know need to worry about such things.

yes I miss certain aspects of England and manchester I was back there just a few weeks ago .
England isn't what I grew up in, it;s totally changed for the worse which is a shame as it still has beautiful country side, villages, friendly people here and there
But also the health care is in crisis and chaos, the crime , drugs, gangs, no go areas, political correctness , criminals getting light sentences , tax tax and tax etc etc

NH still has what I grew up with,
self responsibility, don't want a nanny state, community living, nice countryside, friendly folk, helpful I just love the state where as the state next door called massachusetts, well it reminds be of how england has become.

Joppa,

I grew up in Ireland and LOVE LOVE LOVE it here ... The weather there was way too bland for me ... We have wonderful sunny skies,,, crazy thunderstorms ,,,, and heaps of snow... 4 true seasons and of course Fall is an amazing Splendor ...

I currently live in MA ( I did live in RI for many years )... but I read this site often as I intend to buy in NH. The nature, scenery and simple beauty is heaven.

Americans are very friendly here to me, and of course I am to them! I find Ireland and England (visited many times) Dreary and depressing. Nice to visit .. but I LOVE living here .. did I mention that already :-)

There is very little to no crime where I live, I guess there is drugs.. but it's not obvious, people leave their doors unlocked. I sell Real Estate and very often, when a a house is sold, there are no keys handed over as the sellers have not locked their doors in years ....

Welcome to NEW ENGLAND >>> you'll never look back.... but you might ask yourself why did I not do this sooner ...

I have one question.. why doesn't your Son go to College here?

new england is a big place with many differences, socially, politically, landscape, etc
New hampshire is by far the best state out of the lot though IMHO because of what it stands for etc , unlike it's liberal neighbour to the south which I escaped

I was like run forest run

Yep.
I also don't feel like I have the "Political Correctness Brigade" breathing down my neck here as much as I did in Blighty.

We thought about sending my son to a college over in the States but its far more expensive compared to here in the UK. Would I be correct in thinking this?

Both my parents were Irish, they where from Ardee, county Louth. But Ireland has become more expensive to live than here in the UK. Tax, tax and more tax. Yep your right about the weather, rain, rain and over cast is about right.

I supported Manchester Utd in todays cup final.......they won by the way. The North, South divide is still very much in place when it comes to sport over here in the UK.

Part of the appeal of moving to NH is its low crime rate and being able to leave your doors unlocked.

The company that I worked for was in MA, (Starrett based in Athol) but I found them to be a very friendly bunch and enjoyed my time there to.
