Cap on NH Property Taxes?
Does anyone know whether there's a limit to how much NH property taxes can go up in a single year? Thank you again!

we had an apple orchard 30 miles south of us go UP by $50,000. They were at $25,000 last year. All because of the "view" tax.
The guy said he doen't want to turn the hillside into Condos --- implying that is what is going to happen if the town doesn't help him out.
So.... the cap is whatever you can bear --- before you finally say I'm outta here.

Up, Up, and Away!
I know in terms or residential, the seacoast town I am in is looking at a proposed hike of 8%, which doesn't sound unreasonable, but...When you consider recent tax hikes, increasing valuations, etc., it is getting harder and harder to keep ahead!

Leggo - What town are you in? Londonderry bought the development rights to one of our big orchards to keep it from being turned into housing. Maybe you can get your town to realize that a farm's value is not enhanced by the view and teh new assesment is out of order.

Not in my town, but 30 miles south. The orchard is Gould's in Coontocook. I have heard anymore on the news lately - so I hope they worked it out in the orchards favor. It would be a shame to have it turned into a hillside of condos. It is a beautiful spot looking north towards the White Mountains.

I thought that's what NH's "current use" tax program was for -- to keep taxes low on agricultural and timberland property. Is this orchard not eligible for "current use" status for some reason?

Question for NH property owners. Can your annual property tax be reduced like we do in Vt based on income sensitivity? In Vt this applies to everyone, not just seniors, and applies to incomes up to 88K. After seeing some of the property tax rates in NH I can say that even with our sales and income tax in Vt in my situation I still come out ahead.
