Its funny
we have a former southern Californian living in Glastonbury CT (an upscale suburb of Hartford) And all she does is complain about how boring it is and how expensive it is. Well She has a huge home in a jazzy neighborhood that she and hubby paid "450K" for- well in a upscale neighborhood of Glastonbury's caliber 450K buys you a 2 bedroom condo in southern CA.
Some people will complain and never be happy no matter where they are.
Believe California was nice 30 years ago-even 20 years ago- it is not nice today.

OK You don't like the area this is fine. But Just to fill you in 90% of the people here Didn't want the Federal aid for lack of snow This was the New Democrats in power that where pushing this. Most of us thought it was a waste of our tax money. And where irate they even considered it. But not to worry these tax and spend liberals in office, are on there way out. They abused there power to much already passing laws, that the people are against, and Raising fee's and taxes to the extreme. When election time comes they will be gone. Don't waste our money and expect to stay in office. As for the rest that you mention. I am sory you don't like it here. But on the positive note you don't have to stay. Good luck in Taxachusetts.

I really do hope you find a place that you enjoy living---it's no fun to hate where you reside.

Just curious if you have lived in NE before? I too am in S. Cal and after living in Ma. for a year can't wait to get back. At least I found out by moving back to Ca. that it hasn't changed as much as I have changed living and experiencing different places. It was glaringly obvious to me that Ca. is not for me anymore after experiencing Ma. Where are you thinking of moving and when?

Rmrt - I find your comment about "flatlanders" interesting - we are "flatlanders" and never experienced any problems because of it. I didn't have to find a job, as I telecommute and brought mine with me, but my husband had to find one and did within a day for more than 7.23 per hour. I'm not sure from your post where exactly you are, but it sounds like you are unhappy. When we first moved here, I wasn't sure I would like it - heck, I'd never lived outside the area we came from, but I was willing to give it a try and I'm not sorry that I did.
You sound very angry and I hope you are able to find a place that suits you better than NH.
My personal feeling is that no matter where anyone (not you specifically) decides to go, they are going to "get back" what they "project." We have been open and friendly with everyone we've met and that is what we have "gotten back." Again, that's just my personal opinion......

Fashionablecowboy- May I suggest you gather up your unhappiness and move to coastal Louisanna, Mississippi or Alabama. Might as well be miserable in a warmer place.

running red lights is also very cool here in auburn; probably because there are a lot of people living here that are from atlanta.
also, i have found that NH people are much more friendly and polite than here in alabama.

It sounds like you need to leave fast. Both New Hampshire/New England and you will be better off.

You need to look deep inside yourself.
Frm reading your post I think you need to look deep inside yourself. I honestly don't think the people of New England are the problem but it is your attitude about them that is. I was born in Massachusetts and lived there 30 years and have lived in Florida for 20. I can honestly tell you that New Englanders are much friendlier, hoenst and more hard working than any Floridian ever will. New England is home and always will be to me. When that plane lands at Bradley I know I have come home to people who view the world as a wonderful and exciting place to live. Also a place that opens there hearts and doors to me and to many. Don't be so quick to judge the people that value old ways and traditions. There is definitley something to be said about the old ways and the old traditions, Antique or not. Good Luck in your quest for Utopia.

"Whether you think you will succeed or fail, either way, you are right."
-Henry Ford
That wise counsel applies to every other facet of life as well. If we cloud our vision with the negative, and allow those feelings to take hold in us, everything will come accross as bad. If we look at the world with a bright outlook, our life will be a beautiful and joyous adventure. We will be content and have peace within even when things go wrong or are disappointing.
I'm stuck here in NH, so I try to make the most of it. But in the process, I've come to love it here. I now realize that nowhere is perfect so why waste my life being unhappy and frustrated? Yeah, the long, cold winters can drag on, but they have a beauty and peace beyond compare. When spring finally arrives and I'm breathing in the lilacs, I realize how worth it it all is! There are hassles and rudeness and traffic everywhere. Let's just make sure it's not coming from us! It is within our power to be content or miserable. Life is too short to waste a single moment dwelling on disappointment. Certain things we just must endure. If it were not so, we'd be in Heaven. Life is a journey, not a destination. Enjoy the ride!
