931 Ocean in Hampton on Rt. 27 and 1A. The Old Salt, also in Hampton, has an AWESOME sunday brunch buffet. Jumpin Jays is great, Portsmouth Brewery is good and the beer is great.

Ron Jillian's in Hampton is really good Italian, just don't expect a quiet place. HUGE portions, and really not expensive at all.
If you like Chinese, there's Ocean Wok in Hampton Beach. Awesome.
Don't bother with Mexican food--it doesn't exist here. Period.

Whaaaaat? you obviouslty havent been to Loco Cocos Tacos in Kittery, ME or Agave Mexican Bistro in Newburyport.
Best mexican around!
PS. If you go to the Agave, order the guacamole. The have this cart they wheel over to you with all the ingredients, chopped fresh avacado, etc.. they tell you about them, then ask you if there is any ingr. you dont like. They place it in a giant stone cauldron with stone animals on it and mash it all up right there. They set the cauldron on your table and say enjoy. Best guacamole I've ever had.

I've tried Agave. Meh. So-so at best (and WAY overpriced). You have to understand, having lived in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and California, for all their problems out there, at least they have GOOD Mexican food.
Oh, Aunt Chollada's, where are you when I need you?

I've posted in regards to Loco Ocos in Kittery several times and it is legitimately excellent authentic Mexican with excellent fresh habanero, chipotle, red chile, and green chile sauces offered on the side in a salad bar type set-up. It is a small place just off the Rt 1 business route (not the bypass) on 103. I highly recommend them. Beyond that, I agree good Mexican is hard to come by any where in the northeast. I've eaten at several Mexican venues in New York, including Manhattan which were all god-awful, with one notable exception. Recently I tried a place in North Conway and when they serve you the chips any where with watery and not even medium spiced salsa in a Mexican establishment, trust me: bail out before you even bother to order!!!
Alot of what Margaritas serves is not Mexican and in fact if you want to really get technical, alot of the food is simply Tex Mex: I won't say items like fajitas and tacos aren't Mexican, but they aren't authentic Mexican. To some who grew up on Mexican food, there is a clear distinction between Mexican and Tex Mex. There are several ingredients, including a general addition of cheeses added to Tex Mex dishes. I actually do enjoy some of Margaritas' dishes, especially their chipotle wings appetizer, and their salsa is at minimum, good. But for excellent true Mexican, especially burritos, forget it: head to Loco Ocos.

I finally broke down and went to Loco Coco's in Kittery a couple of weeks ago. Not bad. Good prices, though the guac tasted a bit old and when I asked for a "wet burrito" they looked at me like I was from another planet. But all in all, I'd go back.
