Any info on Crotched Mountain school, nearby towns?
I have a teen with special needs and this school looked very good. I don't know, it might be too expensive and I have to find out about transportation for day students. Are there a fair number of jobs/rentals near that area where you could commute? They mentioned its 45 min from Manchester (a little far but maybe worth it for a good job) only I don't know how the roads would be in winter.

Not very familiar with the school, but it is pretty convenient to the town of Milford. Milford has plenty of rentals and there are jobs in the area. The school itself is in a very rural area. 4wd is advised if you are driving your child to the school all winter (i.e. no bus).

Crotched Mtn school is very good but it is located albeit on a small mountain top you will need good tires for sure in the winter. Milford, Wilton, Temple are nearby and close enough to find a good job.

Thanks for your responses. It sounds more remote than I had thought it would be though it's helpful to know there are nearby towns for us to live and that it's a good school.
Might be harder to get her there if she couldn't get a school bus.I'm used to winter driving but no 4 wheel drive.

I don't know too much, but I know the school has been around for a long time. A long time ago (in the '70s) my mother used to volunteer there. As far as I know, it's a good place, it's certainly very well established.
As far as distance, distances in NH are a relative thing. When an average trip for groceries is about 30 min and no one thinks twice about it, 45 min isn't that far. As has been noted in other threads, NH really works hard to keep up the roads in winter - just have good tires, the school is on a mountain. And why not also look at Concord? or Hillsboro? My mother, at the time, lived in Milford and worked in Nashua.

WannaComeHome,
Thanks for the news about the road being well taken of in winter, I had seem something similar but it helps to see someone else saying the same thing.
The commuting is only part of it, where we are now 30-45 is also considered no biggie - the hard part would be going 40 min to drop off at the school then back the 40 plus some to then get to work, depending of course on where you lived/worked. Add in winter and rush hour and it can be on the challenging side since they usually start at similar times. Luckily we can usually figure something out..can be a bit of a juggle though.
Thanks for the suggestions about other places to check out, so far everywhere we've investigated seems so nice, it will be a tough decision I think.

Keene, NH is about 35-45 minutes from Crotched Mountain and it's one of the larger towns in the area so there may be some job opportunities if you're still considering Crotched Mountain for your daughter.
My daughter has been a student at Crotched Mountain for the past several years. Sending her there was the best thing we did. More important, she loves the school and what's she been able to accomplish there.
I wish you luck as you make your decision -
