Default Airports

I'll be flying to NH from LAX - my destination is Alton Bay. Would you recommend flying into Concord or Manchester. What is the distance from both to Alton Bay?
Thanks.

Paula

Manchester. I don't think Concord has commercial air service.

I thought with Concord being the State Capitol, it would have a major airport

I'd prefer a direct flight - what about flying into Boston, renting a car and driving to Alton Bay?

It looks as if the two largest, closest cities are Manchester and Boston. Renting a car in Boston and driving might get you more possibilities for a direct flight.

Cautionary note, however, Boston isn't an easy driving area (signs can be confusing).

If you are going to fly into Boston, you want your flight to be arriving no later than 1:00 pm so you can get out of the city before the rush which starts at 2:00. (It is always busy but it gets worse after 2:00.)

If you are flying in on a Friday this time of year, you better arrive earlier than that. On an average traffic day out of Boston (not during regular commuter hours) you could plan on it taking 2 1/2 hours to Alton Bay. Manchester to Alton Bay is an hour drive. So you may want to weigh the time/aggravation of flying non-stop into Boston with stopping once and flying into Manchester. If you have never driven out of Logan before and are not familiar with all that entails, I would highly recommend flying into Manchester. I would never wish dealing with the Boston/Logan traffic on a newbie. Alton Bay will be such a reward if you do go the Boston route though!

Fy into Manchester. I think, but have not checked, that Southwest Airlines has a direct flight form LAX to MHT. Avoid Logan in Boston for anything but international flights.

Concord is the state capitol, but Manchester is the bigger city - and the main airport for NH. And Concord isn't that far away anyway.
