LOL taking shots at North Jersey eh , south Jersey with the exception of a few towns is poor. The Rich and Majority Middle Class live in the North and the better cities are in the North. At least the cities up here are turning around , unlike Camden , Trenton and AC Your just jealous of us , most of the states GDP is up here anyway.....and tourism.......what do you have down there Cranberry Bog tours ?

Yes, the Cranberry Bog tours are a must if you are visting the "Garden State". I highly recommend it over the refinery, abandoned factory and ghetto tour that they offer in North Jersey.
Just out of curiosity, what tourism industry exists in North Jersey? OK, people go to NYC, that's a given, but last I checked the shore and particularly Atlantic City were the states major tourist draw. Unless you count the "Soprano's" sight seeing tour and a visit to Snooki's favorite tanning salon, there isn't much to "tour" in North Jersey.
Can't argue over the wealth factor. 9 of the richest 100 counties in the U.S. are all in North Jersey based on income and percentage of millionaires. However, it is a fallacy to assume that South Jersey is "poor". Perhaps poor in comparison to our northern buddies, but still significantly wealthier than almost every other state in the country. On an aside I think most South Jerseyan's feel that we live a pretty nice lifestyle without the issues that face most North Jerseyan's. All that GDP and wealth has drawbacks.
As for the cities, OK, Camden is a cess pool. We all know that. Trenton really isn't part of "South Jersey". Additionally AC is it's own animal. So, we have one really depressed and crime ridden area...how many do you have? The only thing South Jersey lacks is the massive amount of state aid that North Jersey receives. Not to continue to refer back to that, but South Jersey receives something like .50 cents on the dollar that we pay in state taxes back in the form of state aid. Also, the bulk of federal money (which NJ receives woefully little of) is also directed at North Jersey.
The primary reason for this is that the legislature is dominated by North Jersey. More people live there, so they have more political power. We tend to get the token payoff now and then (like the Riverline and money to fix the 42/295 interchange), but not nearly what is received in North Jersey. It generally comes down to the fact that is South Jersey wants or needs something, we have to find a way to pay for it ourselves.

Never really thought about that, but you are right. I never met a person from South Jersey - Philly burbs let alone - who would rather live in North Jersey.
On the other hand, I had a friend from Brick in college who fell in love with the pedestrian-friendliness of Southern Bergen County and is still living there now. OK some may not consider Brick South Jersey, but it's in Ocean County right near the shore. Having been to some parties at his HS friends' houses and seeing what was in the area and that it was so clean with fresh air and so close to the beach I told him he sure as hell grew up in a much better town than the one I grew up in.
At the same time I had a girlfriend who was from Jackson which is right near there too, and because she lived in that pine forest her whole life she was literally afraid of anything city-like and was not a fan of North Jersey at all - until I took her up to Sussex that is.
NO ONE from south Jersey secretly yerns to live in North jersey..
And people from North Jersey settle for South Jersey when they can't compete or are too old to play the game anymore.
You are plan B. Nothing more than a contingency. South Jersey is a bullet you have to bite if your finances are not in order. South Jersey ='s "It's better than North Carolina", "It's closer than Delaware", "It's still in New Jersey", "We can beat most of the Parkway traffic to The Shore".
Stop fooling yourself South Jersey. No one from North Jersey is enthusiastic about moving to South Jersey. It's a necessary evil.
Please stop souping yourself into thinking you are more than the the backwood residents of this state. Take your backseat status in stride. It has been that way & will remain that way. Settle into that notion & everything will run smooth.

And it shows. Who moves to an area & immediately starts complaining about everything & everyone from day one? This would be after buying a house where they put the first bid in, over the asking price? Smart. Good way to run up real estate.
Oddly enough, when faced with the choice of North Jersey or North Carolina, I picked North Carolina.
Really, we were much happier & better off without the influx from the north. So stop fooling your self that any one in South Jersey cares or is impressed.
Just remember that in the 80s, we tried to fix it for ya & secede & form a new state. It was your legislators who wouldn't hear of it & got the question pulled off our ballots, so that they could continue to drain the southern counties.

...and that remains the crux of the problem. South Jersey complains because we want our fair share of the pie. At least return to us in services and capital improvements what we pay in to the state. Instead we get a fraction of what we spend back and our tax dollars go to support projects in North Jersey. It's funny that North Jerseyan's think that they are the ones footing the bill for the pittances South Jersey receives in the way of state investment, but the opposite is true. We have been footing a chunk of the bills in North Jersey for some time.
