Do any of the towns allow chickens? I am seeing alot of dog and cat laws but not much on "livestock".

Thanks!

There are tons of towns that allow them, many rural areas in NJ. can you narrow down "the towns" a little, perhaps to a specific county?

I am pretty sure Gloucester Township doesn't have a law against it, but double check before making a decision based on that.

The Peddie School (ivy league high school) in Hightstown has chickens on their property. Some people don't like it, but can't find a rule to get rid of them.

It is town dependent. My town is a rural suburb in Gloucester County and as of like 2005 or so they now ban keeping backyard livestock. So, you need to check with each individual town. Chickens can be tough as they can sometimes fall into the "pet" category.

The only instance I know of someone getting in trouble for having Chickens in Vineland (which at one time was mostly poultry farms and the egg capital of the world) was for having a rooster and getting a noise complaint.

I know someone in the Lakeview neighborhood in Cherry Hill had backyard chickens. I used to love walking by their house 10 years ago. I'm not sure if they are still there or were ever legally there.

You have to contact the clerk for the town you live in. They can tell you, or put you in touch with someone who can.

When i moved to rural Salem County i asked for a list of the animals etc. that i was allowed to have, and the amount of acreage needed for larger ones, etc.
