The Cherry Hill school administrator who compared public works employees to gorillas has been fired after a vote by the school board.
Mayor Bernie Platt welcomed the board’s decision and called it a long time coming, the Courier-Post reports
Facilities director Kevin Larson created a commotion on Jan. 28 when he sent a racially charged email to Woodcrest Elementary School principal Beth Anne Kob, who required assistance with snow removal.
"No, we will not be sending anyone else over,” he wrote. “All of my polar bears, trained seals and the two silver back mountain gorillas on loan from the township” are unavailable.
Of the "gorillas," he added, "You should see them with a snow blower that has a banana tied to the front of it, they go through a blizzard like nothing you ever seen."
Several public works employees are black. Larson later apologized.
Talks with Larson are ongoing, according to board president Seth Klukoff.
On Feb. 22, Klukoff said the board planned to hire an "independent third party" to review the case for Superintendent David Campbell. No word yet on the outcome of that evaluation.
