There's a possibility I might come in from NYC to join a friend for a couple of days in Philadelphia later this month, apropos of a conference (the Loews at 1200 Market Street). Any suggestions for:

1. a cheap hotel (or tried-and-true B&B) in the vicinity
2. classic archetypal Philadelphia food
3. cheapest simplest way from NYC (bus, I assume?)

Or any other suggestions?

No B&B in that area of the city. But there are several hotels a few blocks away from the Loews (no deal for conference goers there?). Marriott and Courtyard Marriott are nearby as are a Sheraton 4 points, Residence Inn and Home2Suites by Hilton. Plenty of choices. As for Philadelphia foods, practically across the street from the Loews is the Reading Terminal Market. You can literally get any food there (including a cheesesteak). You could go there several time on your visit and eat a different food each time. You can certainly take the bus, which would be cheapest, but also Amtrak right to 30th street station in Philly.

Since you're asking in this forum, as opposed to the Philadelphia board, there's a B&B in Haddonfield that is within walking distance of the PATCO train.
