Sorry kemcnyc. Our house in NJ doesn't have a fireplace. Our house in VA has one and I contacted three local chimney sweeps. One never called back, one actually was hired by me, and one (I found out later) had problems with the Better Business Bureau and was (supposedly) a child predator.
The guy I hired was really great. Cleaned and checked everything, gave us some info, and local chit chat (about car racing).

I just used Chimney's R Us in Sewell for a cleaning. Very straightforward - about $170 to clean, very honest and knowledgeable. I'd recommend them. Good luck!
